WEEL I WOULD BREAK THEIR NECKS, DE-FEATHER THEM AND THEN GUT THEM AND LET THEM DRAIN, LIKE HANG THEM FOR A NIGHT AT THE MOST AND THEN FREEZE THEM.
MissPimperella 0
about 12 of my own as i say there are about 20 people on the allotment with them so all together im guessing there are about 200 on the allotments every1s got to get rid or we dont get a new lease witch runs out jan 09 i would want to keep all of mine and freeze them but i could ask the others if they would want to give them away i just want advice on killing them and gutting then thanks first thing is have you tried rehoming any? I know I'd be happy to take a load and we have plenty of room. Surely some are just too nice to neck? You'll be needing that freezer for the meat from me lol second thing is. If you kill them yourself only very close family and friends are allowed by law to eat it and no money must change hands. Dispatching wise. Mnay methods but on a large scale you'll have to be carefull and also with it being council allotements that they don't pull a dirty and get RSPCA involved. Welders gas is apparently a very quick method which puts the chickens high as a kite before they keel over. Dustbin with the gas pumped in. Pop chicken in bottom with bit of corn and put lid on. I uyse a poultry wall mounted dispatcher and a wall mounted traffic cone with top and bottom cut off. Slip into traffic cone (bird not yerself lol) with neck through the bottom (top of traffic cone) this can drasticly reduce stress and after flapping. Have an ask on the river cottage forum. MissPimperella 0
one of the reasons we made sure we bought freehold. some lease holds have a poultry clause in that says you can't have any. I'm lucky, even the neighbours like mine, but that might be the free eggs.
