Stevebeno 0
I am geting to grips with the fact that a dog does not have to be tall to do its job. I have a bull x grey pup 7months now and he seems to have stopped growing he has reached 22-23inchs in height. Although he looks abit small compaired to other lurchers i have seen i believe he will do his job no bother. Question is what is the optimun size for a lurcher taking rabbits and other game...? stevemac 434
Depends on the game you hunt and the land it is on. quick turning game on small land you need a dog to suit. I hunt in to very different areas first is mountainious timbered country dog needs to be 26 to 27inches and agile second I hunt the plains country out western NSW their the optium dog is more like 30inches. with either a great burst of speed or great endurance. stevemac Quote Link to post

squirreltail 15
My pooch must be useless then seems to have stopped at 23inches...! At 7 months give him a chance hes not even full grown yet, with that cross the smallest you can expect is 25 but he should make more when he spurts in growth at about 10 months. Quote Link to post

Hes more than quick enough as he is although i would like him to make 24 25" simply so ballance him out a touch being a bull x he is a strong muscular dog. appreciated . Quote Link to post

bird 9,873
Its not just the height, its the weight as well. A 24ins 55lb dog , should take all game. As long as the dog is agile, from a 21 to 27ins as long as the dog is [balanced] not to heavy it will catch. BIRD Quote Link to post
