Shooting mag pies

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I have had no problems with pigeons but when it comes to the magpies I just cant seem to kill the buggers.

I have a bsa comet and im shooting from around 20 metres (not sure on how many yards maybe some one can help me out on that one)

Dont want to injure and not kill but im not having much lucky any pointers.

I always find that if you dont look directly at them (eg; look on the ground so they cant see your eyes), helps you get much closer to them.

And also if you aim on top of thair head, if the pellet drops a few centimeters its either going to hit him in the head, neck or the heart and lungs.

If you think your hitting them when you see some feathers come off it, your most likely wrong as about 30-40% of a magpie is feathers, thair body is quite small in consideration so you could just be skimming feathers off them ;) , you'll know when youve hit them because you'll hear that unmistakeable "THUMP!".

Good luck and shoot all the b*stard crows you can!

Luke.

what does that mean, don't want to injure or kill?

They don't sit anywhere for long, they're right crafty sods.i been trying to have them a few months now and i've only managed to bag 2.

lol im actually shooting them from an upstairs window.

Damn just had a shot at a wood pigeon from about 7 metres and it flew off.

Im 100% hitting them as i have been practiving on much smaller targets double the distance and hitting 4/5 shots.

Im aiming for head area though

It means I dont intend on harming them with-out killing them instantly.

I want to kill them 100% in the first shot.

Yeah they move around a fair bit! It will make my day when I get one. It actually landed next to another dead bird i left the magpie was investigating but flew off with a nice pellet in side it.

roryh if your shooting them and alot are flying off id sell your gun and buy a new 1, dont shoot unless you know the game is going to die when the pellet connects, not fair wounding animals mate but if yourh itting them in the kill zone every time sell the gun and buy 1 at approx 12 ft lbs

I keep my HW77K in my room now and shoot down onto the bird table. i bagged 3 woodies last week, 2 in as many minutes yesterday and 1 just now. its a great little adrenelin rush and either me or the ferrets enjoy it! (great if you breast them, season, fry up some spring onions and mushrooms, then add in the breasts with a bit of jack daniels tenesee sauce! mmmmmmmmmmmm.............)
