CZ 452 Silhouette

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

As a new boy I've just briefly introduced myself on the new members section and thought I would submit my first post.

After years of using an air rifle and occasionally a shotgun I have finally got round to sorting out an FAC and very recently purchased a CZ452 'Silhouette' 16" .22 LR, fitted with a Parker Hale moderator and Edgar Brothers 3-9x50 scope from Rakers in Northchapel, West Sussex.

I have zeroed the rifle at 60 metres which seems to also be bang on at 25 metres with Winchester subs. I'm really pleased with the set up and the Winchester rounds seem fine and generally consistent, but I would be interested in hearing if anyone else is getting good results with Eley or CCI through their 452? The occasional flyer is no doubt down to my dodgey shooting!

Thanks.

Well...my CZ is a Silhouette in .22LR as well, but I have a SAK on the end of it and the full length barrel.

Following comments based on HUNTING ammo, and do not necessarily reflect target ammo results!

Eley ammo does work pretty well but it isn't cheap, I have tried loads of subs and supersonics over the years, CCI subs I found worked quite well but were tight in the breech, Winchester were ok, Federals, Remington, Lapau, Aguilla, Sellior and Bellot all presented certain problems wether it was to do with loading/cost/consistancy. Sub sonic wise I now use almost exclusively Magtech 40g HP, Massive HP, consistant, accurate, hits hard, expands well, cycles without any problems and is a good price...ticks all the boxes for me.

As a matter of interest on the supersonic side I have eventually settled on Remington Yellow Jacket HP. Quite light but it is also quite fast, and as they go gives pretty fair results, I also use CCI Velocitors, not as fast as the Remington but at 40g, HP and around 185ft lb they arrive with a thump. The HP on the Velocitors is not that big so bullet expansion is not that of the Remington and they are not as consistant, also don't cycle as well for me hence why the Yellow Jacket takes it overall for me on the supersonic side.

i started off with winchester subs at first with ok results, then i tried ELEY subs & the results were chalk & cheese.

the majority of shooters i speak to say they prefere ELEY with there 452`s.

this is a group of 5 shots at 25yrds using eleys..

my cz style perfers the eley sub ammo 60 yard zero just a ragged hole.

ive shot a couple of hv ammo but i find it very inaccurate so dont bother with it.

if i need extra range then i use the hmr.

what i would do if you all ready havent. is get the brooks trigger kit fitted. you groups will improve even more

when the trigger is breaking sweet

Dont go near cci rounds I brought 300 last week and the lead is slightly larger then others, 40ish grain i think, They wont eject if you wont to unload a live round!!! at the mo i'm useing winchester subs and are spot on! but will try others soon.

Hi mate . i have a 452 silo and have shot all different brands of ammo through it, and after many field trials i have found that in sub-sonic Eley & Winchester are neck and neck, but Eley seem to be more redily available so i go for these. In High Velosity, for me there is only one that stands out from others ( if you can get them ) and that is "winchester lazer hollow point"-They are 37.5 grain, copper coated, so are well up on velosity, very accurate in the silo and they deliver quite a smack even at 100yds Worth a try :victory::victory: If you want a cheaper sub round Magtek will do the job but not quite as good on accuracy..--Anyway thats my opinion--- but most of all enjoy the sport, do your own ammo trials, and enjoy shooting that great little rifle..

Good luck :clapper:

I have much the same setup as grayswood. I found the win subs got stuck in the chamber and would not ejecet after firing, and had to pick them out manually. Now switched to RWS subs, - no more sticking, and just as accurate, did not need to change scope settings either.

My BRNO (CZ) with Parker Hale moderater, definatly is a touch more consistant with Eleys ,Winchesters are a reasonable and universally available second .CCI just don't seem to work in the old girl.On the rare occasion I use them High velocity Remington as someone else mentioned seem good.

I haven't got round to trying Eley in my 452 Style yet. I have shot Winchesters and the Magtech cheapo stuff, and the Magtech for me. It's cheap and accurate, and unlike Eley subs, it hits hard.

I find that there is little expansion with the Eley subs - you might as well use solid stuff. The Magtechs, like the Winchester, have a big hollow point and the expansion works - I have had a 2-inch exit hole through a fox, so can't complain!

I have a Silo in std barrel.

Having tried various brands, I did settle on Winchester HP's for subs.

Having said that, the last pack of 50 out of the last brick of 500, I suddenley seem to have been getting then jamming in the breech if the round hasn't been fired - no problems ejecting if the round has been fired. I'm hoping it's just a fault on that particular batch - no problems previously over several thousands of rounds.

Having just bought another brick of 500 Winnies, I noticed elsewhere that Winchester have changed the size of the HP, and some people claim it's not as accurate.. Haven't tried the new ones yet....

But then again, every individual rifle has its individual preferred ammo!

One thing is definite for me - putting the Brookey trigger kit in it improved the grouping amazingly, so I would humbly suggest that is a must do investment, then find out which ammo gives you the best results.

In the meantime, enjoy your sport.
