Guest Ditch_Shitter
I was once told, by a vet, that it can have an impact on their ability to produce later. Vet seemed a bit 'anti' because of that idea. Personally, I'd be more anti an unwanted litter. Ironic; Vet intoning that it Could screw her reproductive system ~ yet the first thing they want to do, these days, is mutilate any Dog they can get their hands on! Talk about f*ckin " Make Ye Mind Up Time! ". I'd jab

Waz 4,274
42 days! I guess that gives you the opportunity to not use the abort jab unnesisarilly (sp). Well I phoned the regular vet who is always good to us local hunters, and they want over euros for the 2 jabs, 1 after the other. Passed another vets this morning & popped in and he said it'll be just over 50 euros. I asked him about side effects & the long term cons, the upshot is its a recently new product he uses that can be given a lot earlier (still 2 jabs) and because its given earlier theres a lot less risk of infection in the uterus. I should have noted the name of the gear he uses to do a bit of research, but we can all do better with hindsight! in fact if I had hindsight I wouldnt have started this post! bullmastiff 615
Just had it done to Tia, had kept the dogs separated all through her season, then my daughter opened Roo's cage! by the time I got into the Kitchen it was too late and I couldn't get them separated! The new stuff they use can be given at any time during the pregnancy but costs a lot, 2 jabs 24 hours apart, for 80lb dog was £115!!! if I had known it would cost that much I might of thrown her in a hot bath and made her drink Gin!!! Bullmastiff X 1/4 Bullgreyhound would of been an interesting mix though, good for hunting cows perhaps!!

Think your vet needs retraining the whole point of this jab is to stop anything developing not for aborting...42 days works out at just over 5weeks...dogs carry for 9weeks

That's what I did and I'm delighted I did. Cur pup is showing great promise and is a joy to train. Cheers, D.
jim tait 0
2 possible treatments for this:- Mesalin - 2 inections at 3 and 5 days post mating (can give at 7days as well). It may lead to an slightly increased chance of pyometra later and is about 95% effective alizin - effective up to 42 days As for cost, it will vary somewhat Jim
