I don't know if this helps, but Kye and I got our first 2 goats (dwarf pygmys) for 25 quid for the pair from a breeder/fancier. One was an adult wether (no nuts) and one was an adult female who had been bred but had to have a c-section, so they just wanted rid of her. And as they are herd animals we wanted to have a pair at least. They have been wonderful for eating down the grass and weeds and leaves off branches but the lads who said they don't necessarily eat want YOU want them to are right. They will break out of their pasture to eat the EXACT same grass that is on the other side of the fence, and they are clever.

So with our good luck in our other state when we moved and I was looking for more goats as we had more land and obviously more grass, I found another show breeder who sold us our Alpines and Togenburgs for about 20 quid each as the 2 Alpine girls were 1 week old and needed to be bottlefed, and the 2 Toggenburg boys were 6 weeks old, not good enough for show, so they just wanted rid of them. I enjoyed bottlefeeding them but was glad when the 6 or so weeks was up. We were not interested in breeding (whethered the males and won't breed the females) and the breeder had too many kids to deal with themselves all at one time so we lucked out.

Until we completly goat-proofed every inch of fence, the evil 6 of them started breaking out of their 2 acre pasture on a daily basis, have killed 2 of my apple trees/severely damaged 2 others, ate the screen door, shit EVERYWHERE, and insist on standing in the road outside of our house waiting for us to get home (thankfully we are pretty rural so our neighbors know to watch for them). Oh and they also LOVE the farmers wheat field behind us which does NOT make us the most popular people in town. So while I love having the goats, their daily escapes made me hate them. But now that they are properly confined, I love them again.
