BlueCoyote 0
its my first time incubating and i'm not happy about it..... its my mom's idea but she has no room for the damned thing so guess where its sitting? on my porch! its a borrowed incubator, its old, smelly, and the thing that turns the eggs is rusted shut, .. so i have to turn the damned things, AND it leaks! i have to carefully place a little dish in there to keep moisture going because my mom filled it with eggs before locating the leak.... and i dont know if you're supposed to do this or not, but she keeps wanting to add in new eggs.... something tells me you shouldnt because you get chicks randomly hatching out and sooner or later you're wasting electricity to hatch out one or two eggs that may not hatch anyway. i prefer to let the bird do the incubating. i dont mind taking over and rearing chicks if i have to, but.... if its possible i dont want to interfere with nesting birds. as it is i have ducklings about to hatch again and i'm stoked! but they wont be hatching on my porch! MissPimperella 0
We've been incubating for a few months now. Rare breed and pure breed chickens and ducks. Got my 25 meat chicks due on thursday along with another 24 meat chick eggs to go in. got 40 odd runner duck eggs in at the mo and about 60 ish chicken egg various breeds and some more duck eggs due. Great fun and kids are loving it but also love the idea of home reared tea lol which is great from a 6 yr old lass and a 4 yr old lad lol
BlueCoyote 0
what do you do with them all once they've hatched? have you built special brooders for them? i kept my duckies in an old rabbit hutch until they were of a good size, then moved them to a "play pen" of sorts, made out of office cubes lol once they were too big to squeeze through the fence i put them out with the three grown turkeys. today i have discovered my other batch of eggs is hatching out. their mom wasnt pleased when i went to investigate the nest. there were only three black eggs, the rest have tiny cracks and are making peeping noises lol
Guest traceyg
I will pass the pheasants on to a local shoot if they hatch off so it will allow my son a free shooting day or two and maybe keep a couple my self
