.177 all the way for me - once you know your ranges and the rifle well, you can put the pellet where it matters all day long. You could say its almost surgical i guess? lol

Don't get me wrong, i ain't putting .22 down/slagging it off at all - each to his/her own, like. I have used .22 air rifles before and they were good - its just that i personally prefer .177

'A place for everything, and everything in it's place' is what i say. ;)

I use .22 but i've heard 1.77 is a bit more accurate.

Just wonderd though, due to another topic iv'e been discussing, what pellet would you usually use on rabbits at 100yds + ;)

bisley magnums soaked in red bull.......i reckon!!

has anyone noticed the stronger influence of wind on a lighter .177 pellet over a .22

or does the wind have such a slight effect that the difference between calibres when wind is a factor is to all intents just theoretical or so marginal as to make no practical difference

cheers

I like .177 esp. hollow points....BUT this why .22 is better....with smaller pellets / bullets, because the weight is much less then say a e.g. a .22, the .177 has less inertia, and thus will slow down faster then a heavy round, as the heavy round will more inertia and will take longer to slow down because of the heaver weight. The heaver round will have more range, but more importantly, the .22 will retain more of its velocity and energy at longer rangers then a .177. This of course applies to all types of ammo weather it be bullets or pellets.
