jamie g 17
right now its a simple question'now for hunting i aways used a .22 well i still am but now i use .177 alot and i cant make up my mind what calibre i like more...............what do you prefer 177 for me in 12ftlb power. its flatter and more forgiving and as a better range then 22. for me 22 0 yards and 177 35 to 40 yards. i no you can go over 30 yards with the 22 but is loopy at at range where the 177 is flat flying. ive had loads of rabbits and pigeons at 40 yards with the 177 Quote Link to post
celticwar 1
for me i like 22 i hunt on the farm and some times a head shot can be very iffy due to roof or side of barns, so nice heart shot on pigeons does the trick , ive always hunted with 22 ive tryed 177 but didnt get on kept droping pellets me got fingers like sausages. but did like the flat flight of the pellet .and idea of ft . but in the end 22 won me , heavy lead , massive trauma . Malt 379
I tried to get a thread going on this to help people decide on which one was for them, but there were no takers. This question comes up time & time again, with no definitive answer. Both have there pros & cons, but the only way to truly make your mind up, is to have a go of both, & see which one you like. You'll get arguments from both sides & both have their merits. Quote Link to post
LOGUNSOLO177 0
I was hunting with a logun solo .177 and had no probs taking down quarry!! I have now got a .22 scorpion so when I have got some practice with it and learnt my tragectory, I will take it out hunting and let you know which I prefer. Quote Link to post
ChrisJones 7,975
I go through phases. Love both calibres. I also like .25 for ratting. Quote Link to post
leeclackster 0
yes i to like the .177 for distance and i have bagged a lot of game with this caibre' i use aa pro diablo pellets. but ive used .22 most of my shooting life and again use aa diablo pellets................ ................................................................................ ................................ps would flat headed pellets be better for stopping stuff should i use somthing diffrent then the aa diablo round heads Quote Link to post
ChrisJones 7,975
ps would flat headed pellets be better for stopping stuff should i use somthing diffrent then the aa diablo round heads Depends how your gun shoots with your choice of pellet. For general hunting a round headed pellet, is considered better, because it's more 'ballistically efficient.' That's one for the wordsmiths. But how does that shoot in your gun? Who knows unless you've tried it. My general purpose, sit in the van, opportunity rifle is the Webley Stingray Deluxe model, in .22. I've found it shoots best with RWS Super H-Points. So I have 6 tins of RWS Super H-Points in the van. I can churn out accurate shots at a consistency, and distance, I can live with. The manuals and the studies say I should get better results with round headed pellets, but I don't. Test a few different ones. See which is best. Stopping power is no good if you can't hit anything with it. A carefully placed headshot will do more damage than a poorly placed body shot, which will do far more than a complete miss. As Wyatt Earp said "Fast Is Fine. But Accuracy Is Everything." Quote Link to post
ferretville 69
Well i`m firing a ,177 aa s410k and having great success , my neighbour got the same gun but in .22 and thats good as well. Guess at the end of the day it`s what you prefer either way they both do the job atb FV Quote Link to post
noddy10 411
dont get any...get a .20 best ov both wordls then. harder hitting that a .177 and flater flying than a .22 Quote Link to post
ChrisJones 7,975
Quality .20 calibre pellets are getting harder to come by. Quote Link to post
Geoff.C 0
I think it's all down to personal choice. I have always used .177, so that's my choice. For a very short time, I had a .22 Webley Vulcan, must be 20 years ago now. I used it for a short while then moved it on. Quote Link to post
