Shooting Boundaries

Recommended Posts

Just another thing I might add for future reference, the same law always provides protection for Public Rights of Way, footpaths and bridleways etc, where a gun should not obstruct, cause danger or alarm to users of the public highway, including roads, bridleways, footpaths and other rights of way.

Just a thing to think about.

And for anyone shooting in eire the recommended distance is 60 feet from the road.

this law dates back to the 1800's and is merely to do with the shot scaring horses and livestock on the road......... :gunsmilie:

If I could copy and paste a PDF booklet this would have been a lot less work but anyway...

This is what's contained in the recently published NARGC Firearms Safety Manual (Republic of Ireland).

This is on Lamping Foxes, page 18. The first two points below are relevent to people who lamp foxes in the Republic of Ireland.

1. While the law states that you may discharge a shot once you are 60 feet (c. 20 metres) off a roadway or away from a dwellinghouse, in reality if you do discharge a shot within that promixity of a road or a house, you could be leaving yourself open to another prosecution for 'the reckless discharge of a firearm'. Keep this in mind. Keep well away from roads or houses.

2. Do not shoot within 300 metres from a dwellinghouse or farmyard, in particular where livestock are housed.
