BlueCoyote 0
i did a quick search about worming dogs and found people mentioning drontal plus. is that the same as pyrantel pamoate?
moxy 617
To be honest i have never heard of pyrantel pamoate. But if you can get a copy of the product labels or more so the contents and ammounts of the active ingredients this will tell you. This is a paramount rule, Always read the label. You will find that many products have the same stuff in them, Just branded differently. ATB
BlueCoyote 0
the label says Liquid Wormer for puppies and dogs. and tiny letters above that says (pyrantel pamoate) so. i've read the label on the box and bottle but it doesnt say do or dont about worming pregnant bitches, but its ok to worm lactating bitches 2-3 weeks after whelping. tipper 0
i did a quick search about worming dogs and found people mentioning drontal plus. is that the same as pyrantel pamoate? http://www.nutrecare.co.uk/best_detail.asp?prod_id=1606 hope this helps. If for a whelping bitch it advice by UK vets if you not wormed a bitch before mating you can worm her at 40 days mark into pregancy. Then when the Pups at about 2 to 3 weeks old. Give the bitch a good doses. Regards pam
BlueCoyote 0
the bitch in question -not mine- is pregnant but i dont know when she was bred and when she'll be due. she's definitely pregnant...swollen belly and teats... she's also anemic.. thats for sure, partly from fleas i guess but sure there may be other parasites as well. would it just be safer then to skip to wormer in a bottle and just do the natural cure and feed some garlic in the diet? Personally I would have her checked by the vets ask them. I wouldn't give her any garlic either, I would now wait until she whelped and wormer her with the pups. I really say to tell your friend to get some good sound advice from a vet. Regards pam
BlueCoyote 0
will do, but they're not likely to listen. thanks though i'll do my best for the dog and try not to club the people responsible... i did advise on giving liver so help boost the iron content. i hope that was ok! and thank you! You can buy a dog vitmin supplement which has everything in for the dog. Giving a dog liver if not measured right can end up with abit of a loose poo movements, thats the only thing. If they not going to listern about sound advice, then best just saying to them talk to their local vet. If don't listern to a vet. Then no hope for the dog owners. I feel sorry for the dog. BlueCoyote 0
i warned about too much liver - they were thinking whole beef liver but i said chicken at each meal. multis are good too. thats what i give my dogs. my husband seems to think if you're anemic then you cant possibly have too much iron intake. i dont know if thats true or not. i was anemic when pregnant, they gave me the supplements but i distinctly remember reading you shouldnt take too many at once..... so i ASSUME the same applies to animals! i dont know what the deal is. i think its more of a "Cant afford the vet so we wont go" deal more than anything. i've been there before myself! the last time i went was an emergency and only could afford it because my cousins paid half the bill for me. only reason i couldnt do it was because my husband had just been laid off..... great timing for an emergency trip to the vet! still.... if you know your dog is intact and may come into contact with the opposite gender then.. well thats just common sense and i'm preaching to the choir here.
