essexlad06 0
I have just purchased a bsa comet. Have tried it out and the pigeon I shot first did not like taking that pellet. The scope that came with the gun is a 22 bsa special. Is this ok for the 177 air rifle though. It says 4x32 on the side but I would like something with more of a zoom on it can you recommend something? Thanks. Quote Link to post

moxy 617
On the rear of the scope tube body it should have a ring which you turn to magnify the zoom. It will be numbered and it will start at 4. What does it go to? I have a simmons whitetail classic 3.5 - 10 x 50. Its a nice scope and has served me well ( and still is ), and has all the qualitys i require for my rifle. Quote Link to post

moxy 617
So sorry jayhunter And your advice or reccomendation would be??? (other than buy a new scope lol) It is all so good pointing out that it is a fixed focus scope, but without constructive input it is not helping the lad out. Quote Link to post
SteveieP 0
Have a look at the J S Ramsbottom website You should be able to pick up a 3x9x40 with illuminated mildot reticle & adjustable objective lens for 50 quid A set of Accushot mounts will be about another 12 quid on top. For general purpose hunting that's all you need. Paying more for higher magnifications than a 3 to 9x zoom is likely to be overkill & a waste of money. Even with a zoom you tend to find yourself sticking around 6x magnification as anything higher just amplifies how shakey your hands are. Yes there are better optics around but you wouldn't put a set of 800 quid Leupold's on a 130 quid gun. Besides, if you dropped the bugger, you'd have a friggin coronary. If you wanted to go cheaper you can pick up an SMK 3x9x40 Mildot scope for around 25 quid on the NMP Products website. Better optics than either the price or manufacturers name would suggest but doesn't focus so well close up at the highest magnification. Still go with the Accushot mount from Ramsbottoms tho! You appreciate that the advice anticipates there is a realistic budget involved. If the sky is the limit on optics.....I'd start with a better gun.
