help please,no rear fogs on monterey.

Recommended Posts

 Hello everyone, recently got an opel monterey lwb 1994 3.1 lotus edition.

It has failed the mot due to having no rear fog light and they want to charge me £100 to fit one and £22 for a retest when done.cheeky :censored::chair: .

does anyone know where i can get some instructions how to wire the switch so that the fog light can only work if i have main beem lights on.

They tried there best to find something wrong with it and this is all they could come up with.

does the retest have to be done at the same place?

any help would be very appreciated, thanks.

yes the re test has got to be done at the same test station, it would'nt be worth your while taking it else where because the 'new' station might find other things wrong, does the fog light have to only work when the main lights are on then? i dont think they have to, i would personaly just wire up a fog light straight off the battery through a switch, and when it passes - just disconnect it again...

£100 is way too expensive for a fog light fitting.

The rear fog must only work when low beam is on.

Personally get yourself down to a motor factors, get a switch, light & all the necessary items & take the feed from the right hand headlight low beam, that way when high beam is switched the fog should go out.

Bloody hate electrickery.

Max it should cost you is probably £15 and some of your time.

I've just re read your post, is it a left hooker? With it being '94 it should of already had a fog light, if it's eu spec.

this is a good way of doing it, take the live from the back of the headlight bulb so the fog will only work if headlights on, i didnt know it was a legal reqiurement that the fog only works the main beam is on...

For an MOT the fog light can work with or without the headlamps on but the switch must have a warning lamp on it to indicate when the fog light is on.

These switchs can be bought at most auto factors and hace a little LED to tell you that the fog light is on.

Very easy to wire up, just a live from anywhere through the switch to the lamp then earth the lamp to the body.

Hope this helps (i own 2 mot stations)

Cheers
