These pics were taken by somebody in Canada. In his sisters garden, these 3 Cubs are regularly seen (5 in total) Look at the colour of the first one! Its a deep chocolate colour. The other two pics are of two of the others, the remaining are the normal colour as in pic 2. What do you think?

Dawn.

The choccy!

This one is normalish, but has a chocolate overlay.

Possibly, but the eyes and pigment is definately chocolate brown colour.

Yeah, but as far as I know, most melanistic mamals dont look JET black.

Its just a gene with the colour pigment MELANIN. which happens to crop up from time to time.

But just for you we could call this one a rare CHOCOLISTIC fox! lol

You could be right, I know Black leopards still have visible markings in the sunlight, its just this one is a definate chocolate and melanistic animals have black pigment. Nice animal whatever colour.

Chocolistic! Perhaps I could breed a few!! make a bit of cash, chocolate Patts go for a fair whack! :)

Lovely photo's Dawn. What a privelige for them to be able to capture such shots! I also like the use use of the RealTree material as a back cloth!

Now, I'm not at all intimately familiar with young fox cubs. But two things strike me here; One is that none of their eyes have that amber colour yet ~ I believe that comes as they grow a bit older? And also, the fact that smaller cubs are - I believe? - brown coated untill they develope the red coats as they grow?

I'm obviously not trying to suggest that's retained whelp colouration. But I do wonder at the ~ if any ~ conection between eye colour and coat colour. Perhaps one of the more experienced Terrier Men could shed some light on the question of colours at given ages?

Of course, it's probably all far more obvious and straightforeward: It's simply a very nice colour abberation and, indeed, a chocholate coloured fox. Now some dick will come along and kill it, specifically because it's unusual! :wallbash:
