countrycommando89 7 Posted May 22, 2008 Report Share Posted May 22, 2008 another case of air arms sending guns out that are way low on power. i was getting my air rifle (s400) sorted with some studs for a sling and i asked him to crono it while it was there. it was reading as UNDER 10. so its going to cost me about 30 quid to get it sent away to get it put upto about 11.5. im glad i havent taken it out rabbiting yet it would of seriously pissed me off if it didnt kill a bunny straight off. iv only used it on woodies and rats so far. just thought id let of some steam Quote Link to post

maty j 6 Posted May 22, 2008 Report Share Posted May 22, 2008 (edited) alot of the manufacturers do this as with the heavyer pellets, dai sung etc it could be taken over 12ft/lb. is it the brand spanking S400 with safety? if you have a chrono or acess to one and some heavy weight pellets drop me a pm i may be able to help you out.. tote 854 Posted May 22, 2008 Report Share Posted May 22, 2008 I got a shock when I had my .22 S410K chronoed and it read 9.9ft/ib with Crossman Accupell. Before I knew what power it was throwing out I killed hundreds of rabbits with it,all the way out to 45 yards. Quote Link to post

SEAN3513 7 Posted May 22, 2008 Report Share Posted May 22, 2008 manufacturers always seem to air on the side of caution. a heavier pellet i.e. magnums could be running at 11.9 ft/lbs just leagal!! but with a lighter pellet......you will get sub 10ft/lbs. i would guess that % of airguns have never been chrono'd..............i know mine hasn't and ive had plenty of rabbits this year......a average weight pellet at 35/40 yds in .22 fired at 11ft/lbs is travelling at around 6ft/lbs at point of impact.........still kills the bunny.........worked as a percentage a pellet fired at 10 ft/lbs at the same distance would hit the target at around 5.5ft/lbs...not much difference!!!! i see your point but air arms , daystate, logun etc.etc are bound by legislation to ensure they ONLY send out legal guns...............they cant do anything else!! if you set your gun to 11.5 ft/lbs with your usual brand of pellets...........i bet pc plod would chrono your gun with the heaviest available..............and then its bye bye gun ........possesion of a firearm without a licence. dont be to hard on em mate.............their held firmly by the tight and curlys!!!!!!!!!!!!! regards sean Quote Link to post

goldenarms 0 Posted May 23, 2008 Report Share Posted May 23, 2008 I had the same trouble mate got mine brand new from shop it was only putting 10.2 out took it back to shop they put it up to 11.5 only had gun 3 weeks seals went on it. Back to airarms when it come back it was only doing 9.6 but i was lucky local gun shop knocked it back up to 11.5 for free. Quote Link to post
fin and fur 2 Posted May 23, 2008 Report Share Posted May 23, 2008 Excuse my ignorance on testing air rifles for ft/lb but as a legal point when the law test your rifle for power do they use whatever pellets they feel like using to test the rifles output or are they legally bound to use the pellets that you have been using with the rifle at the time they request a test from you i have heard both scenarios but am unsure which is correct all the best Dave Quote Link to post
