ChrisJones 7,975
if someone really wants to kill or hurt someone else they will do it regardless of having a knife or a gun. Agreed. Would anyone hazard a guess as to what the most common weapon of assault, is, in Britian? Answer? The pint pot. In a 2000 study, by New Scientist, on alcohol it came back as a staggering 81%. Will they ban pint pots? No. The point is gun crime won't go away so political hot air always comes around to it, as it's an emotional issue. Fact remains that spending tax payers money, yapping about the problem, is much easier for them than doing the real job. Basically. Air guns get banned. Anti gun activists rejoice. 5 years down the line there are more airgun related incidents than there were in the first place... sound familiar? Quote Link to post
Holdaway 2
Very good points made here. Maybe you should have to join a gun club, also a ticket is not a bad idea but only as a licence to own, not operate, similar to a tv licence, this would ensure all responsible owners buy a licence. Mandatory training before purchase through a registered gun club. The true answer to gun crime I think is severe penalties. Possesion without a licence should be similar to driving without a licence or insurance. Permanent ban from ever owning any kind of gun for all gun crimes as well as mandatory sentencing for all gun crimes. A 14 year old shooting someone for fun ( cos they are idiots) should carry a sentence of detention, banning from ownership, and so on. Accidents are one thing, but even round here, which is a very affluent area, there are airgun crimes commited quite often. Blame the courts and stupid laws, letting people off with light sentences is no deterent. The correct thing to do is lobby your MP of course, if you think that will help... I wouldn't mind having to register my ownership of an airgun, however, it should not be up to the chief constable whether I am ALLOWED a licence unless I have a criminal record, it should be automatic issuance. To cut all crimes in half: No access to passport for life - no more hols in the sun, no more lager louts abroad. Not allowed a licence to own or use a gun, possession without a licence - five years incarceration for every offence/firearm in possession. The police should also only be allowed to test your gun with the ammunition in your possession and not be allowed to alter/modify the guns condition to get a conviction, doing so should be classed as entrapment. The debate will go on forever, one thing is for sure, if we don't make our own recommendations to the government, they will take away our rights one by one until there is no freedom. They don't care about airgun owners, Gordon Brown may shoot at balmoral along with all his cronies but it won't be airguns they use, so the laws will change against the responsible public not those with power and money. And as has been said on here already, no law will ever change the crime, but perhaps the law can change the sentencing for those crimes. Guess that was a rant... not like me huh? All the best H Quote Link to post
