In the market for a new scope and binoculars and was wondering if anyone uses or has used these.

I saw a pair of brand new roof prism 8x42 for sale for £449 and thought that seemed a reasonable price.

cheers

p.s. for the scope im going for a 8x56 schmidt and bender when i've found the best deal - so far £380 all in.

Also take a look at Optricon BGA SE Imagic 8x42's  Got a pair and I think they're absolutely fantastic, £340 ;)

Never seen the Docters so I can't comment.

Docter Optik = Carl Zeiss Jena.

The Jena range was produced in the former East Germany and was not connected with "Western" Zeiss. The products were adequate but inferior to the mainstream Zeiss brand, probably because of lack of investment and R&D by the socialist republic.

Docter Optik took over the operation a few years ago and have transformed the brand.

I would say that they are definitely worth considering.

Stay in - don't go to the pub or buy take away food for 4 months then buy a pair of EL 8 x 42 Swarovski binos you will never need to buy anything else. I have looked through Opticon and various others, your problem will be that spending £300.£400 on binos will cost you more because one day a Swarovski owner will pass you his to look through and you will just have to get yourself a pair and the second hand market on the middle of the road binos is not too good.

I look through visiting clients binos then pat my swarovski :whistling:

I have a set of swarovski 8.5 x 42 EL worth every penny.

My mate had a set of Docter 8 x 30 they were good but still nothing on the swarovski, we actually lost his binos out the Landrover well we couldnt think what happened to them may the truth be told. Then one morning after about 3 months we were out feeding the partridges and as we where climbing up a very steep banking that we did everyday since the start of the season and we lost a drum of water out the back he jumped out to pick it up and what did he find in the bottem of the rut but his binos, three months of being driven over 2 to 4 times a day with a ton of feed and water in the back and they were still alright they steamed up a bit quick but still worked.

I too must say the Swarovski EL's in 8.5x42 are the best I have ever seen. My mate Alan has a pair and my Swaro Habichts 8x30's do not compare at all. I have looked at all sorts and have yet to see anything better than the EL's, they are what I am saving for. Try them at night, not just dusk, and see the difference compared to any others.
