Paul739 0
Just a few pics from a morning out with sickie (Sick old man) off here. We've spoken a few times over the phone but Sunday was the first meet up on his permission. Sadly he couldnt bring his dogs but we had a good morning with mine and a few ferrets. I should also add that Sickie is a confirmed digging fan and on his pm asked me to bring a pick as well as a shovel!!! Thankfully we never needed it but i dug more rabbits yesterday than ever before! Sickies technique is to carefully mark where the ferrets stop and to dig down to a dead or stop ended rabbit. A bit more digging than i'm used to i generally coax the ferret out or send in the hob to hustle them off a kill and then dig down if we have to. But no Sickie was quite firm collar the ferrets and mark the spots even going so far as putting one of his collars on my jill when i attempted to slip her into a hole without one. I cant deny that it worked and in a couple of hours we had very few bolters and had dug down to 4 rabbits in various stop ends. We were also lucky enough to pull another 2 out who were caught by the ferrets within reaching distance. One of the bolters made it halfway across the field! only to be caught by Lily who then let it go and had to catch it again being a bit soft mouthed The weather wasnt great and we decided to call it a day just after lunch but not before my jill had managed to shrug off the collar, the mark on the locator was 6 feet down and sickie was not relishing the prospect of digging in some really hard ground with loads of stones and roots. Fortunately i decided to collect the purse nets before starting to dig and found the collar in the mouth of a hole in a ditch. A fact i 'forgot' to mention to Sickie for about 10 minutes !! It was classic watching him track the locator as it mysteriously moved backwards and forwards disappearing then coming back right beside us! Sorry mate i couldnt resist but at least i didnt let you dig it out did i? Thanks for the invite old git and me had a great day and cant wait to ome back and help again Ps you were right about the collars! nuff said regards Paul Quote Link to post
