If your not strong enough to hold the dog in question then you should be in control of that dog.

A good quality greyhound collar and lead will hold ANY greyhound or lurcher as long as the other end is held tightly.

:nea: Greyhounds heads are small as u know,sometimes the neck can be just as wide ,and in this case they will slip their head out with ease if they get spooked or excited enough.a slipp lead with a noose stops this from happening.

 

you can hold the lead as tight as u like but u may not have a dog on the end of it,no matter how tight it was or expensive.

 

For what it's worth, I'm with Dogman on this one - I know it's heretical to talk gundogs to running dog people, but our four lurchers have always been on gundog noose-type rope leads when they're just walking (as opposed to quick-slips or bits of baler twine when they're working - lol). Our late lamented whippet lurcher was a shocker for the "fling yourself around backwards and dance out of the collar" trick, but of course on a noose, the more she wriggled, the tighter it got. And being a thickish rope, it's not actually painful for them.

 

None of this helps the dislocated-shoulder-in-waiting feeling that you get at the time

Well i tried the lead as a noose & its brilliant , its not stopped her jumping about but its stopped me pannicing about her getting out of her collar , i could just do with a slightly longer lead now & it was so easy to do in a flash & i found her so much easirer to control once the lead was used in this way , i think she was a bit shocked to be honest , she soon lost interest in the other dog & walked lovely

 

So thanks everyone for the advice , i think i may be geting somewhere now

I found it good this morning when the bin lorry came by , she was very skitty while it went past & i just looped the lead round her neck & she was so much easier to keep by me & reasure her as she was scared
