Guest little lurcher
i have outdoor kennels with raised sleeping benches, the bottom layer is now a rubber backed thin carpet matting , the type you find in entrances to shops, thanks shop man!!! then they have old sleeping bags or duvets inside covers , then they are washed at 60 deg to kill fleas, however my dad uses shavings also on raised eds and finds just cleaning out weekly and burning or disposing on our paddock also doesnt allow a build up of fleas , i also have heat lamps in mine whereas dad has heating rods under the ply which keeps everywhere very toasty along with my working whippets and lurchers , i show italian greyhounds which are very thin skinned and wimpy little things at times but its warmer in there than it is indoors in winter!!! and i have no worries aout any of mine being kept outside as long as they are warm running dogs after a hard night need comfort and warmth and i find this is a cheap and easy way of doing that , they work hard for us , so its only what they deserve Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
i have in the past used all types of bedding from vet bed to straw to old duvets etc etc etc ... but i have recently changed over to the brown shredded paper that is used by greyhound tracks and i have found this to be top stuff ... it stays nice and fluffed up when the dogs bed down in it there is no risk of fleas or ticks being paper it is obviously nice and warm and the dogs are comfertable on it ... disposing of it every few weeks is easy because you either throw it out with the rubbish or burn it .... and best of all it is cheap as chips ........... Guest G.Mac
I get a bale of shredded paper at the track, its a fiver a bale out of the heavy paper bag material, great stuff for the winter. Most of the greyhound guys snap it up real quick,so must be widely used. Quote Link to post
