Just came across the breeding of my lurcher.

He is from 'January Jack' lines, saluki greyhound.(His sire)

Just curious to see some dogs from this line, has anyone heard of this breeding?

January Jack was a coloured dog ,lots of wind with a distinctive style of running ,a goalkeeper type, herding his hare out into the field.I think a guy called Ian Glover from Ross on Wye owned him,I have seen a couple of his offspring run ,think I have one on video they ran in th same "thinking"style as Jack ,a mate of mine in Huntingdon has a very decent bitch that was sired by him,she is getting on now but has earned her corn over the years.I beleive Tony Howley may have used the dog over one of his bitches ,not 100% about that though .

"January Jack" owned by Ian Glover from Rochdale (ross on wye! ) was out of the first litter sired by the pure saluki "Deacon" bred by Chris Quinlan, who owned his sire "Ripper" to one of Fred Prestons saluki bitches................

"Wilber" from Heywood bred the litter out of a match bitch from "down south" possibly from M and E lines, but, that's an educated guess :)

Kipper had what he considers his best ever bitch "pip" out of the same litter,a keeper ran "pip" over on the land in her prime :(

Like Inan says........ he was very much a boxer and could tie an hare up in the middle of the field, a trait he passed on to many of his progeny.

Dave Smith was running Gazza at the time and had a bit of rivalry with Glover, it was him who christened him "January" Jack because he always disappeared in January  Not strictly true...... but it stuck and Glover didn't like it! :clapper:

Tony Howley used him on "Turk" but only one bitch that went down south made anything, the rest were decidedly average at best  He sired a few other litters in the N.W, again with aveage results, till Fred Holmes bought

him and put him on the map as a stud dog.

The best bitch i ever saw in the flesh (and I've seen a few ;) ) was out of Jack back to the Gaskins old bitch "Ruby" owned by Terry Durkin.....a bit quicker than he father but when she locked on .............they were going nowhere :clapper:

Thanks this is really interesting to me, find out a bit of my boys breeding!

The Dam was a Deerhound/Greyhound and this is what my dog looks like

He is a good dog so easy to train with great recall.

His litter was a bit of a waste they all sat in shed for six months, the guy didn't do

anything with them and then they all went into a lurcher rescue

I don't know what happened in the first 6 months but what ever happened has had an effect on him and there are times when life is a bit too much for him. He can't handled 'hard' or he falls to pieces. I think it is good he came to someone like me who doesn't expect much from him, just a pet! I think the potential was there for a good worker? He isn't as fast as my saluki cross but he sure is clever!

Cheers for the info!
