i personally have grown to detest water bottles..........mine have a heavy duty ceramic bowl as well as a bottle, they drink from the bowl first and only use thebottle when all the other water is gone

i remember a thread on another forum about water and ferrets and someone with vetinary experience stated why ferrets cant drink fast enough from a bottle and to keep them correctly hydrated bowls are better

also the water in thebottle always seems warm, where as the water in thebowl always seems cooler?

Get a big round heavy ceramic dog bowl and be kinder to your ferrets.

I don't like water bottles either. Used them for a few years, then started wondering if they were actually drinking enough to compensate for all the dried food they were eating. So started using bowls instead and have used them ever since.

Good idea to have a bottle as a backup though

Now mine aren't eating any dried food though, they drink very little water anyway, because most of what they need is in their food.

Nice cover Sue. Hope it works well

mine take great delight in digging at the bottom of the bowl till they move it and empty it .My son reckon's a poultry drinker is the way to go but as there plastic i reckon the ferrets will trash one in a week .

I prfer the poultry drinkers I have bottles aswell and they are less mess with the wood shavings than the drinkers I used the drinkers outside in the run and bottle for the inside section. As for them being stable, I had 9 ferrets working on one when it was first put in and the didn't manage to tip it so I'd they are fairly stable.

At present i've got double the amount of water bottles i need and use a bit of chain from a sink plug half full of water and a couple of shakes and there clean again

My bowl is about 9 inches accross, and very thick , plus it has straight sides and a very thick bottom, its the size of bowl a person would buy a great dane, plus when full of water, even when i had 7 ferrets they didn't move it!!!

I also reckon a poultry drinker would work as long as it was full to add weight!

sawdust/shavings will get in but you should be checking/cleaning out often enough to stop that being a problem, also i use very little shavings in my run, i purely put it in the toilet corner to absorb piss!
