dogman541 0 Posted May 18, 2008 Report Share Posted May 18, 2008 (edited) My border bitch had her pups,and at 8 weeks they developed a cough,after a course of antibiotics 2 of them were fine and got sold.4weeks on and another 2 courses of anti's the other 2 still cough when excited.the vet isn't much help and is happy to keep charging me for sod all really.otherwise they're healthy,had there first jab and FULL of beans.Any advice would be very appreciated as i can't keep them. any offers? lawrence 657 Posted May 19, 2008 Report Share Posted May 19, 2008 antibiotics won't do a thing for it and as per usual your vet getting his hand in, its the same as the common cold in humans, i've had good results for myself and dogs using Echinacea , worth a try. These 2 pups could be passing it back from each other, I'm just thinking high amount of hygiene might be needed extra with hands ect. I know this might be hard but maybe separating the pups as much as possible from each other to break the cycle of the germ going back and forth between them. Hope your pups are better soon. I wasn't born yesterday! No, but if you read your post you will see why I made the comments! It doesnt say the pups were vacced BEFORE they developed the cough. Some vets will vaccinate unhealthy animals they do it all the time, strictly speaking any animal receiving treatment for any condition should not be vaccinated, however, thats not the case, not in the slightest, Vets still vaccinate dogs suffering from auto-immune diseases, the very thing that caused their illness in the first place! Guest SJM Posted May 29, 2008 Report Share Posted May 29, 2008 If it was me, I would just be completely honest with the potential buyers when they come to view the pups. Warn them beforehand when they ring or email incase they are allready dog owners and dont want to bring it back with them and infect their own dogs. If they arent allready dog owners then great, they may not mind taking the pup. Just tell them the pups have a temporary, common and very harmless infection which is in the process of being treated. You could also either offer advice to them about how to treat it themselves using home made remedies, offer to pay for the pups ongoing vet treatment after it leaves you (most expensive option) or you could offer to keep the puppy back for them for a small deposit to cover feeding costs, until such times as the pup is clear of KC. Keep us posted how you get on, Ive had KC a couple of times in my kennels, always brought in by outside dogs and its a pure pain in the arse, sometimes it goes round all the dogs several times before it eventually dies out.
