Recommended Posts

is rampant here at the moment, all my dogs bar 1 are over it,i havent had it in years but i got well stung in the last week with it.i have kept them all in and avoided walking them on collars and leads on the street, but i do take them into farmland and let them have a run about.anyone experienced it lately, not a pleasant thing for the dog i think.

out of 5 dogs all but 1 have recovered from it,the pit bull at 10 months old has a bad discharge from his nostrils,i put him on AUGMENTUM 500,human antibiotics,i also tried the honey but he refused to touch it,for some reason it hit him worse than the rest,i remember it travels its course in the dog for a week or so and then fades,so hopefully it'll be dissapearing in the next few days.i have been out with three different dogs today and not a hiccup so they seem to be right as rain again.it was only present for 3-5 days in the dogs and had no serious effect other than an annoying(to the dogs and me)constant coughing. The pit pup has lost a bit of weight and had a very heavy discharge from his nostrils as i mentioned,he was also a bit lack luster in his condition and slightly depressed in his outlook to life.I'm hoping the next day or two will show signs of improvement.I rang all the friends likely to call in to warn them to stay well clear so as it will not be transmitted from my dogs to theirs.I'll let ye know how i get on in the next day or two.

jigsaw, i would give your dog " benylin cough syrup" for the next few days, that will sort it out. and your right a lot of dogs have it in your area. jigsaw its not a jab you give your dog, the shot comes like a parvo amp, when you suck up the contents in the syringe you get a special spray head for the syringe, you then spray it up and into the dogs nozzle slowley, this shot is given to prevent kennel cough, not to cure it, and should be given every 12 months, cost about €10, some people get it done if there putting there dogs in kennels each year, as the owner of the kennels require you to do it. dont work or run the dog to hard for the next week or so.
