Mossdog 27
Is the Irish Terrier used in any way as a working dog? Have you seen it work? What is his temperament like - especially with other dogs? What bloodlines is he from? Mind you - I could ask just the same about the collie..........but I'm nosey (having read the thread in the terrier forum) and I want to know about the Irish Terrier! How are you going to find homes for the pups? I rang about a litter of Irish x greyhound pups a while back, but the advert was out of date by a long time. However, the man I spoke to said he had a hell of a job selling them. I'm not knocking Irish (I've had 2 and the last one I trained as a gundog) at all, but they tend to be a breed people either love or hate! Quote Link to post
gtomo 4
IMO i would use the collie Quote Link to post
Neil Cooney. 1
Is that a collie in the picture, no insult meant. Is it a worker ? Is it a good working collie? Is the Irish terrier a worker? Is he a good working Irish terrier? Is the greyhound a good greyhound? Quote Link to post
lurcherman1 0
i personaly would use the collie thats giving u the brain for the sort of land ur talking about. thats my opinion anyway Quote Link to post
jigsaw 11,865
Go find the best ''WORKING''irish terrier you can, then go find the best working collie you can,and enjoy rearing a litter of fine collie/greyhounds.Irish terriers havent seen proper work in decades, why youd even want to consider a sire of this breed is beyond me,if you fancy terrier blood in your cross, then bedlington/wheaten/bull terrier is the route to go,but personally i think a collie hound cross is the job for bunnies once both parents are active and skilled. Is he a good working Irish terrier? Is the greyhound a good greyhound? he is a fine workin dog my collie, straight off the farm where both his parents work,he has been the easiest dog to work with so far and will go all day, excellent at flushing from the ruff stuff to gun or lurcher, the irish terrier isnt worked full time but has had some experience, and does his job well when asked. Mossdog 27
Best of luck - however you decide! You are obviously very pleased with your collie and as you know him inside out & know about his background too - and enjoy working with him - that seems to be a big plus to me. Hope it all goes to plan for you Quote Link to post
