My first shotgun and kill

My licence reads like this "The .410 shot pistol shall be used for vermin control on land deemed suitable by the Chief Officer of Police for the area where the land is situated and over which the holder has lawful authority to shoot" I'm not sure what the minimum length of barrel I can have is but I know there are quite a lot of longer pistols on the market that I can legally have 'sawn off' :victory:

I've just been out and checked the mail box and found the new copy of EDRD and my shotgun and firearms certificate too, it's finally here in my hands at last I completed and posted off the forms on the 10th March so it took nearly two months in total but it's all here now. My firearms ticket is open too

Hi Leveller

Fist well done with your SGC FAC

I was reading what you said your licence said and i maybe wrong but as it reads it is a semi open licence as it says land deemed suitable by the chief firearms officer of police for the area where the land is situated?

I have an open licence and mine reads The .22RF Rifle & .22WMR Barrel and Ammunition shall be used for Shooting Fox and for Zeroing on Ranges, or Land over which the holder has lawful authority to shoot.

I just raised this as a word of caution as you dont want to get caught using it when you get it on land they have not cleared

My FAC reads the same for both of my rifles. This means that the land you put down on your application form is the only place which you can shoot with the .410 unless you contact your Firearms Dept and ask them if any new land has been cleared for use. I have done this a few times and they have always been helpful and luckily all the land has been passed.

Tell ye what, mate; You'll spend MANY happy ours with a .410! Many, many! They're a bloody delight to carry. I'd as soon have one again as a 12 bore. That's the truth.

Must say though; the .410 pistol? I'm squirming with envy! About the only time I ever met one was pushing thirty years ago now. Mate showed me, at a show he was running just outside Lewes, in Sussex. Double barrelled hammer job it was. Something about it just turned my screw! My eyes and things were bulging! Fancied the hell out of one ever since.

Now, ironically, it'd be the perfect little piece for me. Loaded up with light, 2" cartridges it would indeed be the despatch tool supreme.

Ye've got me thinking now; I wonder if - over here - they consider a shotgun pistol the same way they do any other 'Handgun'?

:hmm: Now ye've gone and set me off again, look!

speaking of 410 pistols and sussex already sent message to leveller when he was looking for a 410 pistol as i have just give one to a friend and that same gun i picked up from a fella just outside lewes in sussex small world or what

On my application I put down that it will be used on land which I have been given permission to hunt on there was no specific area/farm/shoot or county even for that matter so I take it as long as I'm allowed to be there I can use the gun????

Seeing as I had an empty gun cabinet and shotgun licence I thought why not so I went and bought the .410 this afternoon it's perfect for keeping the ferrets fed through the summer and already I can see myself spending many hours out with it.

It would be rude not to  Good man :clapper:
