slyfox-mal 1
hi guys i got given two big chinchilla cages a bit back about 4 foot by 3 by 3 and thaught maybe i can do some thing with em so i have been reading up on traps on here and i decided to make one into a larsen. lol nowt to do but put a spring on the door really anyhow i found some old trampolene springs on our dump on the allotments so fixed one on to the door and cut a foot long piece of brush handle for the split perch and wedged the door open . i went into the shed and got a couple of hens eggs and put them in a madeup nest and broke one just out side the door i came home for my tea and when i got back down there an hour later there sitting in the trap was a nice maggie. i was expecting it to take ages to catch my first call bird and got one in a couple of hours now im really getting the hunting and trapping bug and guess ill be making the other larsen up tomorrow . cheers mal Quote Link to post
Guest Ditch_Shitter
Nice work, Mal Now ye want to use the bird ye have to lure his mate in. That may take a bit longer but ye should get the b*stard. Thing to do then is either swap both of them with different people from elsewhere in ye vicinity, or else take the traps to elsewhere and use those two birds as Callers. But either of the resident pair won't serve much further purpose within their own patch. They already own that and no other bird's liable to come looking for an arguement inside that ground. Mile down the road though and they'll be dynamite! Quote Link to post
slyfox-mal 1
cheers ditch for youre input mate there are about 40 pairs of maggies over our allotments always scrapping and causeing a fuss i have to be careful where i set the traps as im the only one sorting em out and alot of tree huggers on site so ill have to be covert in doing my bit to rid the place of a few more. and if i can trap some more id be more than happy to give em away to people round my way for there traps as you say a strange bird is always an advantage cheers mal Quote Link to post

I now have 4 Green finches which I never seen in these parts before. My goal would be to have Yellow Hammers back as its been some 20 years since I last saw them. P.S. I have trapped a good few birds but every day there seems to be the same number flying about they don't seem to be gettting less in numbers or is the counryside saturated with them? Opinions if someone knows more info on them(MAGPIES). Knid regards Knifebar Quote Link to post
