It looks like an allergic reaction to an insect bite of some sort for sure...........could it be a horse fly bite? These don't itch a lot but can cause inflamation and swelling. Get it checked out anyway.......to be on the safe side.

and you never saw anything on or around you?

Have you tried to prick it with a needle to see what comes out?

Is it hot and infected looking, or is the color just "color"?

spider bites - rather most insect bites - wont hurt right away.

and with spiders you may not react until the next day.

horse fly bites can do some nasty damage and are warm or hot to the touch. i knew a girl who was bitten on the toe by one of those giant horse flies and she couldnt walk on that foot for a week. couldnt even get her shoe on.

serious if you havent got ammonia then try the onion or a hot tea bag as a poultice. depending on the bug that bit you it will either get better or worse. a hemotoxic spider bite will rot the flesh all around that area in no time. i dont know if you have spiders quite like we do... it might not get any uglier than that. but you dont want to wait and find out if it will!!

my husband was bitten on the face and arms by a brown recluse when he was asleep. quick action was the only thing that kept him from looking the damned phantom of the opera.
