A very odd question

This just struck me, I like the question so I thought I'd put it out there for consideration.

So, a lot of us will be members of several forums. Sometimes using the same name sometimes using a different name. Those of us around a while will know who's who usually. So, here's my question...

This is very hypothetical and presumptious by the way, made up in other words

You know someone on forum A and talk to them, and know them on forum B and don't talk to them. Do the conditions of the forum dictate how a person acts on that forum compared to the other forum?

Debate please

i'm a member of three forums.....

one is this one of course

the other is a pet dog forum

and the other is the forum of one of my favourite authors (its girly stuff mostly)

ETA there is another forum i pop into occasionally but its mostly about sex and you wouldnt want to hear about that!

i was a member of the pet dog forum before coming here... BEFORE that i was a member of a bulldog forum. had the same name in both places.. got mad and left the bully forum.... joined the pet dog forum just to have someplace to go. meanwhile still looking for a sporting/bulldog forum because the pet place wasnt doing it for me.... months later i find this. didnt really want to use my name from the bulldog forum so i decided to go with the name i use in my email addy.... everyone knows me as this anyway.

i also use this name for the author's forum.. again it just suits me... i've had this name the longest.

as far as how i act.... erm.... well.... i can relax a little better in here because i have more in common with a lot of the members here than i do in the dog forum. my dogs are guard dogs for my livestock so they spend a good deal of time outdoors. if i admitted that in the other forum i would be shunned for it lol "dogs should be indoors only! imagine all the dangers that could befall them without constant supervision!" so i keep my business to myself and just hang around for the debates and discussions. remember when i posted the thread about the coyote/pit bull attack and the owner of the pits got flamed? well thats the gist of the place. i wouldnt dare tell them half the shit my bulldogs have killed while guarding the property.

and in regards to the author's forum.... well its mostly girly chat so its totally non-related to anything here. there are a few members from the UK in there but i doubt they would hang out here. i could be wrong though! as for my attitude... i will always choose battles no matter where i am. but for the most part.... THIS IS ME! on or off the net, what you see is what you get!

I think the forum dictates what you will and wont post...........I dont think you can post any serious hunting related stuff on here.

To many antis and twats watching...........its a playground with a small spattering of decent lads (sadly, no more lasses) who you read and respect.

It can be entertaining to read some of the stuff that gets spouted though.

That my tuppence worth.............

see thats what i dont understand.. the fear of the antis. if you arent breaking the law... er... TALKING about breaking the law then you shouldnt have to worry about them.

have any antis ever gotten brave enough to join this forum and try to start something? i havent seen it since i've been here, but i havent been here all that long really.... and for the ones that ARE breaking the law (regardless if its right or wrong its still the law, but i wont blame you for what you do) i would worry about posting pictures of the dogs.... especially ones with distinguishing markings. that would be too much evidence to get yourself caught!

Serious hunting related stuff? Are you scared of anti's, have you anything to hide? Keep it legal and respectful of what you hunt and how can there be a problem..

I think the main issue is people bitch on about nothing, how can members who rarely post anything hunting related, moan about others, put some effort in and share your experiences with everyone, if all were of the same mindset of just coming on and reading, not posting there wouldn't be a forum...

What do you contribute in the way of threads wilf ? Are you classed as a respected member, one of the small spatterings...?

well......i'm a member of this forum and another airgun forum.................i use this one 99% of the time as the other one seems a bit more ....."straight laced" !!

i find most of the topics as follows:

airgun forum - useful advice plenty of helpful members

earth dogs and terriers - as above

fresh and salt water fishing - as above

general talk - very amusing , and ( most of the time ) a good friendly section .

there is of course, always a minority that spoil it for the masses, theres always somebody that whinges and whines, knows more than anyone else and has an opinion on the post topic rather than adding a relevent post !!!!!

the areas above are the ones i use as these are topics of my interest. but have also the same opinon with other ares of the site.

the hunting life is a credit to the originators and admin/moderators .

i think it works well and people shouldn't be to quick to judge in any area as we have not all been hunting for years, using computers on a regular basis and how many of us have actually run forums??????

i supose you can liken forums to pubs !!!!..........you go where you enjoy yourself and feel welcome !!

thanks for a great site, keep up the good work.

all the best

sean

I did write a long and boring reply, but I tell you what..........just delete my account please

Your not jacking on us are you wilf? You take the hump pretty easy... Instead of running the place down, why not hang around and post some worthwhile threads for others like yourself to read...

oh good lord ..... you have no idea how much of an issue it can be to some people if you contradict yourself or change your mind!!

in the pet dog forum there is a man in there that must be a detective (or wants to be one) some woman said one thing in that forum then something opposite in another and THIS MAN TRACKED HER DOWN AND TOLD ON HER!!!!! :icon_eek:

as a female i maintain my right to change my mind any time i jolly well please. i dont think thats being inconsistent(some mght be) but i see it more or less a sign that someone has the ability to reason and change for the better. but dont dare contradict yourself in front of that man. its like he has no life and his purpose is to point out peoples inconsistencies.

i think i hold back more at the other forum than in this one. there is no point in trying to make them agree or understand my stance on things (i'm anti-kennel club, believe in breeding worker to worker, and i dont try to verbally assault someone if they havent got money for a vet)

i've had a lot of fun stirring things up over there but its gotten old. i dont want to fight every time i try to be myself. there's only about six other people like me in the other forum. the rest are snots. hardly worth it most of the time.
