dickyboy 1
did the rifle shoot 1/2 inch groups out the box? did you hand load? i was thinking of getting a semi custom rifle cos i can't find a stock i like but seeing the VL SS Thumbhole i'd like to try one, then customise that a bit, trigger, barrel shorter etc.....can you tell me the goods and bads of your rifle?? stillair1 16
If you get it screw cut, go for the largest diameter you can to remove as little meat from the barrel as possible. Most good mods can be had in a variety of threads to order, reflex,pes,dm80 to name but three. That's damn good shooting from a factory rifle btw. Quote Link to post

Yes, the standard Remmy trigger was lightened (DIY job) and it was shot in properly. I'm not allowed handload so they're standard Hornady moly coated 40 grain rounds. Other than the fact it's on the heavy side I honestly don't have any complaints about the rifle. I love the thumbhole stock and may get one for my Quad as well. Quote Link to post
dickyboy 1
excellent, thank you i'm gonna put a jewel trigger on straight away, and prob have 6inch off the barrel for weight and pointability and then threaded and properly crowned, is the stock quite resistant to scratches, water etc whats the length of pull out the box? I hear it's meant to be the best, seen one in the flesh and it looked very good to me Jet z compact as mod for me excellent, thank you i'm gonna put a jewel trigger on straight away, and prob have 6inch off the barrel for weight and pointability and then threaded and properly crowned, is the stock quite resistant to scratches, water etc whats the length of pull out the box? Six inches is a lot to take off a barrel IMO, I'm going to leave my barrel at 26 inches then add a mod lol, should be fun. I don't honestly know the length of pull, it's a tiny bit short for me but I find it very easy to use. The Jewell, well I just cannot rate it highly enough. As for the stock, Mine hasn't been marked yet as I do try to take care with it. It's not wrapped in cotton wool either though. Quote Link to post
dickyboy 1
most gun customisers have said a 20" barrel is ideal in 223 but will continue researching, my rifles tend to get dragged round abit, they are tools at the end of the day, i keep the action and barrel clean but the stock does get a little bashed thanks for your reply again Quote Link to post
Guest JohnGalway
The laminate is pretty tough. It won't be as good as synthetic but mine is also a working rifle so I have no qualms about laminate Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
most gun customisers have said a 20" barrel is ideal in 223 but will continue researching, my rifles tend to get dragged round abit, they are tools at the end of the day, i keep the action and barrel clean but the stock does get a little bashed thanks for your reply again 20 inch barrel is fine for 223 but i wouldnt want a 26 inch barrel on a 22/250 cut to 20 inchs as you would loss fps and that to me would spoil the point of having the 22/250 in the 1st place. my rifle is going to be around the 29.1/2 to 30 inch mark when the mod is fitted to my 22/250 as ive gone for the front mounted mod of the ase. it seams alittle long but i wont be shooting it from in a jeep so the lenght isnt going to worry me Edited May 28, 2008 by jamie g Quote Link to post
