It's a common problem, several of my dogs have done it regularly, usually when in the house and boy does a little bit of blood go a long way! I have never found an answer other than the immediate one of a bit of sticking plaster on the end of the tail unless you can identify what she is knocking the tail on and staple some old carpet or sacking or something to the hard surface to try and soften it and reduce the chances of it happening again. forest of dean redneck 11,608
there is a powder called ster-zac.its been around for years used when babies umbilical cords are cut.i use it on the kids when they bleed badly.its stops the bleeding, helps the wound to clot.i dont know if its any good for dogs if they lick it off ,may upset them.just make sure it doesnt become a behavioral issue with the dog biting the wound i am stuck with the terrier doing this.started as flea allergy and now she wont stop pulling out coat and making skin bled. pat blewitt 41
My bed/grey does it regularly, I trim the hair off and then use germolene new skin, stings a bit first time , then I just put more on every other day, hair soon grows back and the tail heals ok underneath the germolene Quote Link to post
Guest Workman
I had the same issue with an English Coonhound that had a bit of a unique flick to his tail wag and would bleed from the tip. I applied the Clotisol liquid I have for blood clotting after a terriers tail is clipped and then wrapped it with 3M Veterinary tape. I imagine any silver nitrate powder or liquid would work, so long as it can be protected from the dog while it treats the problem. -Brian Quote Link to post
