You should have mentioned the flatty as well mate :clapper: "Friends" tell me the bottoms of their nets used to be filled with flounders on some sorts of ground  ,what size mesh and length net?

150 yards in length 4 3/4" mesh.

is that fished on the bottom then, netrigger

The nets that were used are Surface Fishing Nets, but as they are worked on the beach by foot you allways get Flatties e.t.c. on the run in/off. Regards.

May sound like a daft question this but if you were going to put one out at low tide on the flats would you run it parralell with the beach or at 90 degrees to the beach ? Also are gill nets available to buy ?

Well I don't know where you are, but if you put a gill net out up here, and set at 90degrees to the beach, you would fill the net with salmon, which is not allowed. Plus baliffifs would swoop on it possibly, and the fines for taking salmon aren't good.

Set parrallel to the beach would mean more weed and stuff in the net but much less salmon.

If you're looking for gill nets, if you pm me, I can rig you something up depending on what you want.

Mackem my dear fellow like i said its in the book, " On the ......... we fished with a foot leader with a single dropper, using low water double hooks, usually about a size 10. The patterns that got the best results were the old friends, butcher, dunkeld peter ross, zulu and black pennel". Now the question is what size leader do you recomend Mackem and what do you think, double hooks or larger ?

Regards.
