dogs-n-natives 1,182
Theres loads of old artificials round my way, built a long time ago by hunt staff of years ago. Ive built three myself, one single entrance, and two doubles, funny thing is the single one holds all the time. Its long, and is placed at the top of a bank overlooking a stream in a wood. I was told this place would work, and work it bloody does! Get more foxes out of this than both my doubles put together. But i think its all about the siteing of the artificial, more than the layout of it, but then it may improve further by making it a double entry. The other two are on fell ground, and have had their use. I was always taught to ut them south facing if possible, have an entrance 6inches wide by 9 inches deep(to stop brock), site them near water. If you cant have them south facing, have a cink in the pipe, to stop cold winds blowing through. No need for chambers with double entry ones. I dont personally like pipe ones, as ive had a few times when the fox was killed mid pipe and the terrier has stayed ragging the carcass for ages! Can be a pain sometimes. Quote Link to post
