dawnraider 2 Posted May 8, 2008 Report Share Posted May 8, 2008 have been on the lookout for a new dog and have just been offerd a 1st cross collie greyhound,i trust the breeder and know it is a true 1st cross out of two good dogs,but are they anygood or should i look for a more indepth bred dog. A touch of whippet in the mix would be nice as well. fast, strong with brains. Be consistant with training and socialisation and bring it on well. They can be sensitive enough. Not a dog to be just left kennelled and taken out occasionally. If you put the effort in you will have a fine worker. Quote Link to post
Guest Taffybull Posted May 8, 2008 Report Share Posted May 8, 2008 My mate has one, in a polite manor, shes Crap. im not sayin this goes for all collie crosses because ive seen an heared about meany brilliant grafting collie x's. but she is too clever for her own good, by that i mean when she is in persuit of a rabbit, she thinks to much and 99.9% of the time she miss judges the rabbit turnin, she wil start cuttin it off, and then the rabbbit will dart the oppasit way and gett away. she has done this on many occasions. she also has never picked up lamping.. to be frank.. you would have more luck lamping with a goat .. ther is only one thing she is good at, Jumping and thats it. but shes a 'bad egg'. but she wouldnt turn me off having such a cross thers bad and good in all breeds . A touch of whippet in the mix would be nice as well. fast, strong with brains. Be consistent with training and socialisation and bring it on well. They can be sensitive enough. If you put the effort in you will have a fine worker. :thumbs: :thumbs: spot on that although as you said they need attention as there kind of a clingy breed if thats the word. had one and she was soft as shit till she was taken out the kennels by some fuker..(another story) its probably the classic of breed for a lurcher in my opinion a good all rounder. should take most if not all quarry.but i found having the collie in there you need to keep them occupied often. and as for jumping mine pissed 5 iron gates.FOR A FIRST AND LONG LASTING FRIEND GET IT MATE IF YOU KNOW THERE FROM WORKING STOCK THATS A BONUS.... KEEP US IN THE LOOP MATE. you forgot to say how old it was..and when you say in depth what do you mean by this..are you thinking a different breed or a dog with more than 2 xs in it(a bitsa) i have a bitsa but would always have a good first x collie x gray!!! If you put the effort in you will have a fine worker. one of the best dogs i ever had was a collie whippet greyhound iv got a collie whippet greyhound bitch fast as fek and putting her back to my mates 1stx collie greyhound and im keeping two pups out of her and 2 of my mate wont pups from them both good dogs 100% like someone said in the last posts 1st cross can have to much brain so be carefull good luck with whot you go for Quote Link to post

DICKO there only a couple of weeks old so a bit of time to decide,by indepth i do mean a bitza,i already have one he is beddy whip x saluki grey with a dash of collie along the way,a game little dog for 4 months i want a partner to bring on with him ,here he is at 12 weeks. bird 9,968 Posted May 10, 2008 Report Share Posted May 10, 2008 I think 2x collie grey, would be a better alrounder for most people, plus with the 1/4 collie more a running dog than a thinking dog. . How clever as it got to be to pick a rabbit up, ive got a 1x collie grey, and that much collie can some times work against a lurcher. BIRD Quote Link to post
