BlueCoyote 0
for those that do keep and tan the rabbit fur (or any type of fur) what do you do with them? sell them or use them yourself? right now i have a fresh rabbit skin and since its only one i havent decided if i should just practice my tanning skills on it - this will be the third time i've ever done it, and the first two skins were nearly 12 years ago, following my grandads advice. he isnt around anymore to guide me so i'm having to look up methods elsewhere. its just a plain white rabbit skin and nothing special, though i figure i might have some fun with dying it a different colour (its a bit blood stained in one area ) if it doesnt turn out right i'll turn it into bait for the flirt pole.. but i want it to turn out right lol

BlueCoyote 0
hello, we did a deer skin ages ago it took ages, but if you cover the flesh side with salt then cover it in news paper, then press it with some heavy books on the top iv been told it will take 2 weeks but i havnt tried and tested the method seems i've heard of the newspaper method.. but only heard of it. never seen the result and dont know how that would look. not worried about it being tough. one person told me the way to fix that is to use the no-heat setting on the clothes dryer. throw in the hides with some pieces of wood, or old shoes, and they'll beat it into being soft. well i have a dryer with a burned out heating element so its perfect. like i said i have one i can practice on so no big deal if it goes wrong. i just dont want to get anthrax or some sort of nasty bacteria infection because it rotted lol
