mark01856 7
i was out on monday with my air rifle out rabbiting. Anyway, i shot a rabbit wchich was facing away from me, and it dropped instantly, it twitched for about 1 2 seconds, when i went to collect it, i could not find where it was hit. there was no holes anywhere(well that i could see) and there was just a little bit of blood coming out of the ears. when i picked it up, i could feel the skull was all smashed at the back, im just confused, i cant find a pellet hole, but it skull smashed? does anyone have any opinions on what happened as im stumped. p.s. i shot my first tree rat this weekend too. god they are ugly little things. Geoff.C 0
I've had this experience too mark, using a rimfire. If a rabbit you shoot at goes down, then there has to be a hole? Sometimes though, when it may be a smallish rabbit, I think the shot may go straight through without making any mess. The fur closes back over, and your rabbit looks as if it is lying asleep. If you take the time to turn back the fur, you should find at least the entry wound, but it may not bleed at all so can be hard to find. Quote Link to post

tote 856
If you really want to find out where the pellet hit the rabbit skin it,including the head. Then you'll know for sure. Quote Link to post

jayhunter 0
yep i agree skinning is the only sure way to find out, but if the skull was smashed chances are the skin just closed over and covered the wound, why worry where ever the shot entered it did the trick Quote Link to post
