runforyourlife 361
Ok, but the question wasnt about the shovel, it was about limestone and all the rest of the question. Thanks for the advise on the ferrets, i have 9 of them, all good workers, and i have had the line for over 10years in these ferrets, so i dont want to lose any. I have 5 locator collar, mk3's.. I wasnt asking how to ferret, been doing it for many years, just wanted to know about the ruff terain and the massive amount of holes.... Thanks for your words people... Quote Link to post

Guest on the hill
three people alltogether should do ya!! your ferrets mite get a bump on the head from those rocks but there tough little animals (very tough) and as for how deep they go....god only knows .if your worried about your ferrets sticking up then your best bet is to wait till you have a ferret that your not too scared of looseing before you try the burrows but this is not to say that i am suggesting walking away from your ferret without first making sure you have tried and waited for hours for the ferret to come out!! if you have trouble geting the ferret back cover up all the holes and come back the next day and the ferret should come straight out when u return!! mine did.good luck it looks like nice ground by the way!! grats Thks, but i think i may struggle blocking up 50 or 60 holes. yeah just a bit only a suggestion Quote Link to post
comanche 2,909
50 / 60 holes would be a small bury on some of our chalky ground and like your' burrows might be nice and open but tend to be deep. Wait for winter like everyone says .Less chance of young bunnies to cause lay-ups ,less chance of non-bolting territorial does and less chance of hormonal ferrets. Start early in the day to allow plenty of time for working the burrow through and to allow for any waiting time or lay-ups.If the digging is really bad you may well have to settle -in for a long wait .I'd make sure my freds were well-fed too. Some might say that would take the edge off their hunting instinct but rather that than an overnight vigil while your little mate lays-up on a tasty corpse under 15 feet of rock. Nice spade ;Spear and Jackson ? Quote Link to post
