He asks you to sort them out. But, you don't agree with shooting foxes at this time of year. What do you do? Reason I ask is I've seen this come up on another website. I'm not going to say what I think I just want to know what you all would do. Remember, you're putting yourself in the position that you don't shoot foxes at this time of year, but you've been asked to by the person who gave you permission. Think about it before you reply I was recently faced with this dilema,a local sheep farmer asked me to deal with a fox he deemed to be troublesome, and asked me if i could sort it out. What was i to do?say no and offend him,he might think i was only shooting foxes to suit my self when it suited me,or oblige him and help him out with his problem. So this is what i decided to do,i walked the ground loking for the earth which i found under a clump of gorse bushes, it was obvious there was cubs at home.I decided the most humane thing to do was try and shoot the vixen first and then deal with the cubs by shooting them or failing that dig them out with the terriers. The day i arrived it was a glorious day with the sun splitting the trees,i knew there was a good chance the cubs would be out playing in the sunshine and sure enough they were.I wanted to take the vixen out first as it was all or nothing.I got into cover down wind put the face mask on and started squealing on the back of my hand.within seconds she was racing toward me at full speed and stopped only 30 yards in front of me.Cross hair on head pulled the trigger and down she went.I then placed her out side the earth and over the corse of 40 mins or so as each of the cubs emergad to her i dispatched them with the rifle. As i said earlier it would have to be all or nothing,i wasnt going to shoot the vixen and leave the cubs to starve, its not the done thing.I fetched the terriers from the van and ran yhem through the earth just to make sure there was no cubs left behind which there wasnt,so job done farmer happy and away home Quote Link to post

whip 1
you shoot them. used to have this dilema when foxhunting and marked to ground, wether to dig and shoot or leave them, always the land owners decision cos he's only having you on to cull vermin. if you won't do it why would he want you on.
