Guest friedrice
after numerous pm's and phone calls to wife i finely made my way down to wales for a fishing trip. we met in a place that sounded like gellifellin, fairfech, fuckfoof and on we went to the fishing mark. one glance over my tackle and wife said its not up to the job that took me back a bit as i've bought the top of the range ron thompson gear but he assured me it wouldn't be strong enough. after a sort out he loned one of his rods and reels real high speck stuff. the walk down to the fishing spot was a day out in its own with many birds i've never seen before rock pippits, choughs, perrigrins and waders all birds that i would not see on my own patch. fishing was slow to start off with and i thought my casting distance would hamper me somehow, but as wife said fish can come at all distances and all states of the tide. not one to argue with such a fisherman i took in all he said. one thing that got me thinking was the bait we were using sand eels and to be honest they looked like they got brought back from a coach trip from spain, manky looking f*****g things but wife assured me that they would catch. anyway after 3 hours fishing nothing was caught and wife deceided to throw one out for me in the chance that i might get a fish, i myself could only cast about 60 yards but wife's casting really took me back he could cast 160 yards with ease which made my effort look poor. anyway after 20 minutes i had a fish on wound him up and got him to the beach don't know what it was but wife said it was a nice fish anyway it was a great day out and although wife didn't catch he spent all his time teaching me and i thank him for all the help today. sorry if this thread had gone on a bit but i really think i am hooked on sea fishing and thanks wife for the great day out and the tuition and like i said to you your more than welcome to help me out on the park deer. thanks for a great day wife. fried rice Quote Link to post
wife 1
was a enjoyable day mate, just glad we managed to get the 1 fish, look forward to having another go and it was unfortunate that the wind was blowing like it was today, possible a few more fish would of been caught, the sand eels i caught myself mate, and i will arrange a trip out as soon as the weather gets better on a good spot for sand eels ,can be good fun with a light rod, that one you have just got would be ideal for catching sand eels and also for fishing for flatties in estuaries,i will speak to the lads over portishead way soon and arrange a trip out glatting,it really is impressive to see the terriers the lads use over that side of the bridge and to see them marking in and how they manage to pin the congers when the rocks are overturned,it was something new to me until last year and i do take my russels along but these dogs over there are bred fop this purpose only and are not used for anything other than rats, reason they use them on rats is some of the places the lads go glatting are filthy beaches and amongst some of the tidal rubbish there are large lumps of wood which often hold some good size congers and when the tide is out there is quite often a good number of rats to be found as well, the dogs in question are a mixed breed with some 3 generations in use,any that have jibbed on congers have been given away, they resemble patterdales with mixed russel thrown in over the years, most stand around 10,12 inches and anything over this is not used, like i said its something which is not heard of and many people like yourself laugh if told people go glatting, its a day you will enjoy i am sure, the chase can be good when you turn a large rock and a conger takes off to the shoreline, the dogs scream like hell and it is good to see how quick the lads manage to hook the congers without getting a dog,a skill in itself, some of the congers can reach double figure and when the dogs mark a large slab of rock and it holds a large conger to see the lads reach in with a gaff and hook them out is a skill ,again the amount of crabs (peelers) which are a great bait you come across when glatting comes in handy and once frozen can be used through the year, hang on to the rod you bought as it will be ideal for fishing mullet, flatties and other small fish, will take you up on the offer on the deer, glad you enjoyed your day out, fingers crossed will have a few more fish next time Quote Link to post
