Elgeeco Squirrel Trap

Recommended Posts

I just wondered if anyone used the Elgeeco squirrel cage trap on a regular basis and if you had any success with them.

I use one or two in garden situations.........and have had varied success with them. The internal bird feeder certainly works as an attractant to greys used to raiding bird tables.........but in a woodland setting they were not as effective in my opinion. That said, the small woodland birds flocked to feed on them, being able to squeeze through the 29mm mesh to get at the peanuts in the feeder.I had more success with a tunnel trap placed beneath the cage trap at the foot of the tree........squirrels (and rats )came to investigate the peanuts dropped by the feeding birds and paid the ultimate price for their foraging adventures.

yep, i bought 4,

not had a job in since catching 5 from the last table................

i did fit, though a baffle plate to the rear of the cage, to stop him gnawing through to the fence i sat it on.... i was also advised to place a bit of wood in the cage to allow him to chew on, rather that anything else.

donks.

Yes i think a back plate would be beneficial as on a fence they can do some damage........but funnily enough you seldom get any damage to the bark if they are placed on a tree.

The bird feeder certainly comes in for a hammering by the trapped greys, and the wood idea seems a good one to help stop the damage.
