Trip to Weymouth

At the end of this month I will be visiting Weymouth for a couple of days and in preparation for this I have invested heavily in a crab line. I traced this piece of equipment by scouring ebay and it cost me 99p plus £1.99 packing.

 

I have never ever fished in my life and dont have a clue but seeing as I have her indoors with me I thought that I would have a go with a crab line sooner than getting earache.

 

Any tips where to go what to do what bait and anything else.

 

All information gratefully received. (I know nothing at all)

We went last week sea fishing we had about 40 pollock ranging from 5lb- 14lb about 30 mackrel and 1 lucky fooker caught a 22lb tolbut (Not sure on the spelling)its a flat fish anyway

Could I put persil bags on as well as the hooks or is that not cricket.

Turbot,beautiful fish,which boat were you out on Burnie?We are shore fishing,probably spinning or plugging.

1 group was out on pats boats who takes hugh fernly out and we was out on edgars boat good day was had by all we was dritfing the wrecks using sand eels and using mackrel fillets for the turbot.Mackem got edgars number if you need a contact to go out with he fishes for bass commercially seems to know his stuff.

I always used to use fish heads and scraps from the fishmongers when i was young. I lived by the sea and was out most days in the summer, great times. My mate reckons cut the hook off and put one of those persil washing bags on instead, fill it with your bait and lower down the harbour wall or whatever feature your on and check every now and then.

The same friend swears by sausages or bacon as bait. Good luck, Joe

used the persell bag trick at bridlington , worked a treat , agood way to spend afew hours with the kids

harrycat if ya bought your crab lines at the coast probably would have only cost you a quid and you would have saved on p & p

Yes I was told that Steve but didnt want to take the risk and have to talk to my missus all holiday.

Where the feck do you get these Persil bags from ?

Do you have to buy tablet things or something??

I've fished in Weymouth,on the pier over the brigde and past the lifeboat is best.On the right hand side onto open sea it is very snaggy but with a float you can catch small pollock,poutin some mackral and school bass,there are a few fish to be had fishing into the entrance to the port as such.Have seen some very good mullet lurking around the boats and marina also off the sea wall by the beach,the lads in the fishing shop by the bridge are well helpfull,the bloke in the other shop in the town isn't.Seen some lads fishing for bass off the beach using slipper limpets which can be picked off the beach but are better used a few days old and after a good wind.

Right I have now got two persil bags and a crab line with two hooks and a weight.

What do I do now ? Cut the hooks off and attach the persil bags or tie the persil bags on seperately with the hooks on as well??

 

What can I expect to catch at weymouth harbour area on the hooks or the persil bags ??

 

This is my first attempt at fishing so need the advice, pleeeeeeeese

There is a guide that can be hired for the day from the bridge shop if you want a proper days fishing but all your catch with a persil bag is crabs(the sea animal not the other sort of crabs assocated with harbours),some carp like gear is fine for a bit of light harted sea fishing,ask in the shop and tell them what you need they were allways really helpful to me.
