Mk 1 Rapid help needed

Recommended Posts

Afternoon

Need a little bit of guidance, I have a Rapid 7 Mk , my question is this.

I was out and about the other night and had the gun cocked with the bolt right the way forward and locked down, anyway I was walking around my permission and put the gun over my shoulder in my sling and somehow managed to knock the bolt so that it came half way back through its motion, it didn’t come all the way back, anyway like I said I never noticed so I carried on round my permission till I found some wabbits, stalked up to them and took my shot………….the result was a pretty loud bang nothing like a metal bang but like a big release of air bang, the pellet left the gun and I fired a coupla shots off after this and all seemed fine, but I have a nagging worry about it, anyway does anyone know if I will have done anything to any of the seals in my gun etc or any advice other than to not knock the bolt again it would be much appreciated.

Oh and one last thing, when I remove the buddy bottle on my rapid where should the bolt be???? Forward?? Back?? Halfway??? Or does it not matter???

allways have the bolt back when undoing the bottle as for the bolt what i would do is check the o ring on the buddy bottle if it needs changing then do it. fill the bottle up take the rapid out and have some shots see if its ok then leave it over night see if there is any air in there in the morning. i think you mite have double loaded it. if this is the case be carfull in future and carry the rife with the bolt away from you

Thanks

The bolt was forward then i managed to nudge it and it slipped back i never noticed that it was halfway back till after i had taken the shot so there was defo only one pellet in the bore, i was worried more about the fact i shot the gun with the bolt at half cock rather than it being locked forward.

Cheers for the info regarding where to have the bolt when removing the buddy bottle though, will make sure i do this in future.

Hi

The bolt and pellet probe has a dog tooth on the under side which draws the hammer back to the sear when you cock the gun,The bolt would have uncocked back to where the hammer is ,when you squeezed the triger the hammer would have moved the bolt forward closing the breech but not as tight as if the bolt was locked down forwards.I doubt if the bolt would have uncocked enough to reload a second pellet.I have had a Rapid 7 for 12 years and have done it loads of times and has not had any effect on the gun.If you are worried you can remove the hammer and trigger mech and you can see the dog tooth with a torch to see if there is any damage but i doubt it.

It is the safe way to remove a buddy bottle with bolt open, but unsrewing the bottle a couple of turns and firing the gun into the ground to lose any pressurised air behind the valve will prevent damage to the bottle seal before unscrewing the bottle all the way.
