last nights stroll!!!

Recommended Posts

Afternoon, just thought I’d let you now how we got on last night.

Went for a stroll round one of our permissions last night, me and sean3513, anyway the farmer has asked to leave some of the bigger wabbits alone as we have been gutting a few with milk lately, anyway his land his rules etc etc, so we go for a wonder about, one of the fields we go into is a massive L shape with the vertical line of the L having a river and a hedge down its border,, unfortunately there is only one wabbit out about 100yrd away, some of you may see this as a challenge I consider it a bit of an mission.

We decided to leave it no point spooking it and then not seeing it again all night eh?? So we go through the gate in the hedge and into a large square field, nice 4 little young guns sat about 70yrd away with good cover provided by a sheep feeder that the farmer has just moved, we move towards them, putting the feeder between them and us and take up position laid next to the feeder prone. Sean 3513 spotted the little kucfers first so he gets first shot, bit of luck he’ll nail it and the others will only scurry to their burrow entrances stop and wait to see what happens next leaving me a shot. No luck he nails it but the others all bolt clear, bugger no shot for me!!!

We wait out for 10mins more then decide to wander around the rest of the permission and see whats about, which turns out to be not a lot, stalk a fairly big wabbit for about 25yrd, get to about 40yrd of him and decide to crept in a little closer but he sees me and bolts, then sits about 60yrd away, but as he was a bit big really I decided to leave him be.

Apart from this, and about 4 hares that we leave be obviously, there aint much doing………….so back to the sheep feeder it is then and there are 3 more little kucfers out again, my shot this time, creep into the feeder using it as cover from the wabbits as we stalk in from around 80yrd away, easy enough with young wabbits and good cover then lay prone just from the corner of the feeder and line up ma rapid with a bunnies head, only prob its got its back to me and I cant get a shot to its head, hmmmmmm. This time I get a bit of luck it turns side on and sits up on its back legs, too good to not go for albeit we are on the edge of my comfort zone, range wise, 40/45yrds, ma gun is only zeroed at 35yrds, did him though, good head shot too. One big leap into the air and then the nerves kick around for a little bit then………………….nothing.

Now Seans got himself a nice new big lamp, I can’t tell ya what it is but he will fill you in later I would imagine, Anyway having never bin lamping I was a bit unsure what to expect, its awesome, loved every minute, we sat on the edge of the bank of the river with the lamp on with a red filter and waited, well how many wabbits do you need to see, imean Christ this is like heaven, the best one was one that hopped up onto the bank, I swear not more than 15yrds in front of me, nailed the little kucfer right behind its eye, and because of the light from the lamp I could see the pellet fly all the way to impact, awesome!!!!!! Even better when I got up to the thing the pellet had gone straight through and out the other side, god loves a rapid and if he don’t I certainly do!!!!!

Anyway I wont go into all the ones we shot as this post is long winded enough, to those that have read this far thanks hope it wasn’t too dull for ya.

haha

big dug, man writing them whilst in the office is even sweeter. anyway got all ma uni exams this next two weeks so think we wont be out a whole lot for a fortnight or so.

Also does anyone know if i have done anything bad to ma rapid 7 mk1. i had it cocked with the bolt right forward, then i put it over ma shoulder in my sling to climb a gate and nudged the bolt so it was half way back, not right bak but halfway through the action, never realised and then when i took ma next shot it fired the pellet but made a hell of a crack!!!!!!

Any ideas anyone??

hey..............your always going off half cocked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

was thinking about that actually.....................i think it will be ok............as the bolt was halfway back i think it was probably air escaping from between the breech and the bolt............but hopefully someone will be able to shed a bit more light!!!!!

get on with some work now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

cheers buddy
