Tyla 3,179
i've been working with a kiwi chippy and he has been singing the praises of the place. it sounds incredible, plenty of hunting and fishing, decent lifestyle, plenty of work etc. As someone who is perpetually on the look out for a better place to live its very appealing! Does anyone have any personal experiences? Edited April 29, 2008 by Tyla

Yokel Matt 918
I've just got back from a 7 mth trip in New Zealand and i can tell you now, from a hunting and fishing perspective, its amazing. Loads of pig hunting in North Island as well as quality sika and fallow stalking. A chippy i was working with went stalking with a .40 cal black powder gun to make things harder as there were so many on his patch. Tons of wild goats too if you need and dog meat and the inland areas are thick with rabbits. The local councils has a nasty habbit of ait dropping 10/80 to thin the rabbits which is a shame but they are in such plague proportions i don't know what else you would do. There in an 'easter bunny shoot' in a vinicity of Central Ontago (South Island) where well over 10,000 rabbits are shot in a weekend! Honestly mate... go check it out... plenty of work if you're in a trade as well.
TOMO 27,128
did 3 weeks on the north island , last year , unfortunatly didnt get chance to hunt, spent many hours in the gun shops, boring staff , with loads of questions about the country , and hunting. fishing all you need is a licence , ithink about $95 n.z , and you can fish anywhere inthe country, rivers lakes whatever. no day tickets . hunting can be carried out on any governement owned land , without permision, apart from gun licences of course. i am also led to belive these are fairly easy to get. and im sure there are no closed seasons another great thing about N.Z the population is 5 million, for a country thats a little bit longer than the uk . i met a good few ex pats out there and they said it was the best move they ever made. hunting doesnt have the same stigma that it does here, there are large hunting and fishing clubs with anual compitions to kill the biggest pigs , so there will be lots of fellas out hunting then having a drink after, it sounded great to me. there are large populations of deer i think there are 7-8 speices of them , goats rabbits hares possums . and what a beautifull country it is, truely spectacular. yes a very nice place that i will visit again, and try to do some hunting next time TOMO

spudlington 3
Was there a few years back on a hunting drinking and diving trip. It really is an amazing place, loads of hunting, good people and great craic. The non-hunting population are very understanding of the need for wildlife managment and fieldsports in general. Had a great time and would love to go back soon. If you are planning a holiday to check the place out give yourself plenty of time to do it. I was there for nearly 5 weeks, got to see a lot of both islands but would have easily spent the whole time just trying to see as much of the South Island as possible. Amazing place. My parents travel for a few months most winters and went to NZ one year and Aus the next. They were very disappointed with Aus after being in NZ, said they are glad they have been to Aus but mainly because they don't have to go back again
