I had a "bad back" for many years, but was made worse by a car accident about 4yrs ago. I then had a bout of Sciatica whcih was crippling. It flared again last May, the doc was crap, wouldnt refer me, I ended up in A&E unable to stand. Due to all the waiting, I paid to see a private consultant to "jump the queue", he thought I had a herniated disc (prolapse) The wait on the NHS in my area for an MRI scan was 3 months, the wait in the BUPA hospital? an hour an half!!! :icon_eek: Had it done there and then. Confirmed disc prolapse, serious pressure on the sciatic nerve pushing it onto the spinal cord. Within a week or so, I had lost feeling in my left leg and foot, couldnt move, the nerve had began to damage the cord. Couldnt wait any longer, was told if I waited the 6 MONTHS the NHS were quoting for the OP, Id probably not walk again!

Had it done privately 3 days later, and I walked out of there pain free the following day!! Absolutely terrific, cant believe it, the first time in decades, no back pain, can walk for miles, stand around, NO PAIN!! I still have a "numb" foot though because of the nerve damage, but that doesnt hurt at all so causes no problems.

The MRI is the only way to see exactly what the problem is, Id recommend it if you can afford it, at least it will tell you what the problem is and the best way to deal with it.

Dawn.
