A very experienced person once told me you could get permission to use a firearm in your back yard if it was deemed suitable.

hi all, me and my mate av 15 acres on open farm land, want to know if thats enough to apply, anybody got licence with less land, cheers :gunsmilie:

If you (or a mate) are a member of BASC the I recommend you consult their very helpful firearms officers. That way you will get fact not fiction.

15 acres should be ok.

Do you know if the land has already been cleared for .22RF. If it has, then I would hope that you would be ok, given that .22RF is more powerful than FAC Air rifle, and also very prone to ricochets. However, attitudes do vary from one Police force to another......

A few years ago, before I got my open ticket for my .22RF, a FAL, whilst not willing to clear a particualr patch of land for .22RF did say that he would be happy to clear it for overrated Air Rifle, and that land was well less than 15 acres - probably about 4 acres.

But do remember it depends on whether the FAL considers that you and the land are reasonably safe for that level of power - if you are surrounded on all sides by motorway, houses etc, and rabbit warrens that you want to shoot are adjacent to the houses or motorway with no reasonable backstops, he may not be willing....

If you can demonstrate that you have several years experience of shooting non-FAC air rifle, and are willing to walk round the plot whne he comes to interview you, telling him where the quarry lives, and what you would consider safe shots, that should help your case...

Think safety all the way!

Good Luck
