HI ADAMAC WHAT PART OF VIC YOU FROM I WAS OUT IN PACKENHAM IN JULY AND AUGUST STAYING IN THE MELBOURN FOXHOUND KENNELS AND HUNTING WITH THEM AND THE YARA GLEN - LILLY DALE HUNT HAD A GOOD TIME AND MET SOME FAB HUNTING FOLK OUT THERE WE HUNTED ALL AROUND JHULONG .ALSO HAD 1 OR 2 DAYS OUT WITH THE TERREIR MAN FOR THE HUNT WITH THE RUNNING DOGS

I live not far from the lilydale hunt club.The son of the terrier man from the lilydale hunt comes up in the mountains with us when hunting sambar.I used to hunt sambar with foxhound/harrier cross but the government has made us hunt with only bloodhounds or beagles now.I have 2 bloodhounds and others in the group have a few beagles and we do well on the sambar deer

Hi, can I ask why you can only hunt with beagles or bloodhounds and not foxhounds?

The government said the foxhound and crosses were too agressive towards the deer.So they made us hunt with only bloodhounds or beagles.

95% of hunters used foxhounds or foxhound crosses so it was a way the government could make life real hard for us without an outright ban.That was 2 years ago so at least now our pack is getting better and more experienced so we should have some good hunts this year.Another photo of old foxhound.

Thanks for replying Adam, do the hounds hunt anything else apart from deer and how many are in your pack? Visited NSW and WA this year with a view to emigrating so interested what there is to work with dogs.

Western aus. is very restrictive on firearms and hunting.NSW would be my choice.Deer,pigs,rabbits,foxes,goats,ducks,quail,hare are available to hunt along most of eastern Australia.

For deer hunting in Victoria we can only hunt with a pack size of no more than 5 hounds per hunt.Lots of hunting of pigs with dogs in NSW and Queensland and Northern territory.Fox hunting packs in Victoria,South auastralia not too sure about anywhere else.

Me with a huge stag taken 2005 and my bloodhound 'bundy'.This stag was taken by the team leader.We hunt in a group of between 5-10 shooters on foot in the mountains of Victoria ,Australia.Mixed pack of beagles and bloodhounds.

unfortunately adam is right, however western australia is 1/3 of australia in total, so is a lot of area to run around in... a lot more then any nosey f****r can keep an eye on anyway lol

ADAMAC im back out to packenham in victoria on the 27th july and back home on the 14th i will be staying at the melbourne foxhound kennel also got it planned to go out with the running dogs on the you know what :11:
