Ossie 11
if memory serves, treat em like winkles. although i reckon the best way to cook them is in the shell, on the embers of an open fire, with a bit of butter & a bit of garlic on em, about 5 minutes after you've got them off the rocks (i.e. when you've got enough). the trick to getting them off the rock is to sneak up on them, and give them a good sharp kick. they'll hear you coming otherwise. if you start pissing about & making vibrations, poking them, pulling them, they just cling on harder. Guest Ditch_Shitter
I've actually read in one of the survival type manuals that they go down rather well with cider! FFS! No F*cking Way am I putting Anything of that nature in my mouth!

I thought they were quite good. The foot of the limpet can be quite tough to eat. I believe 'Pastai Brenig' is meant to be tasty.
ginga john 268
I tried limpit once, open fire on the beach and we ate some of everything we could scavenge, never again
dogs-n-natives 1,182
I tried limpit once, open fire on the beach and we ate some of everything we could scavenge, never again  Tried them aswell, didnt like them myself. Far to chewy and bland. I would eat them if I was starving, but would skip the cooking/preperation side and just swallow them raw, job done.
shaun22 0
weather permitting im off winkling tomorrow, and am going to try limpets. Anyone got any advice ? im a limpet virgin. ( how many is enough, do i leave in fresh water like winkles? , cooking them) etc Put the limpets in 2 pints of water with 4 teaspoons of salt. Leave to soak for 24 hours. Boil for 1 hour in salted water. Drain and discard water. Discard limpets. Buy fish and chips eat or something else more palatable. Seriously they are not even that good as bait. If starving then eat them, otherwise spend your effort on something else.

Smokoe 2
I was in Cornwall a fortnight ago and went sea fishing for the first time, had a good day caught these mackeral, and the kids had the pollack. But the rocks were covered with limpets, I got a few as you can see on the pic. I used the blunt end of my priest to knock em off, I held it about 1/2 an inch away and smacked the other end. If you tap one then abandon it, all you do is end up smashing the shell. I boiled em till they came away from the shell then sauted them in butter and, after trying them, felt I should have left them be. It was like chewing a rubber ( of the eraser kind!! ). As said by others dont bother unless your starving. Edited May 4, 2008 by Smokoe
Smokoe 2
I've actually read in one of the survival type manuals that they go down rather well with cider! : I'll eat your limpets as long as the cider comes free if not you can stick your limpets somewhere smooth & purposeful
