bottle safety

i am aware that your diving cylinder requires a test certificate..........................looking around the forum some users seem to suggest that a test certificate is required for a buddy bottle????

i didn't think this was required???and if it is why do you not need a test cert for an air gun with a fixed air chamber???? presume there is an issue with pressure??

please can anyone advise !!!!!!

many thanks

On my HW100 it states it should be sent back to the manufacturer when it gets to 10 years old, if you are unsure how old your air cylinder is it should be stamped on the cylinder somewhere? ( not sure if this applies to all guns but it does on mine).

Hope this helps

Coney.

Hi Sean, I did call into Theoben a bout a year back to get my dive bottle re charged.

Was having a chat with them and it was mentioned that buddy bottles 'now need a ticket'

Will also ask the same question though why doesnt a 'fixed cylinder' need testing?

All Bottles that hold Preshire if it be gas, air , what ever all have a life span normaly 5-10 years. If stored right and not left out side.

But for all u pcp gunners out there, Have u ever tryed getting Dry air from BOC. I use it for spray painting so it has to have 0% of the wet stuff, And a 45kg @ 300 Bar will cost u half the money. only reason y they put it in a drivers bottle is so u can carrie it about but divers bottles cost more as u take your BOC bottel back :p no worries about the life span of it..

Also i been thinking of using somthing other than dry Air in my s410,, somthing total innert, Its the same Gas pubs use for Ginnes, + its more dence so the molicules are smaller, ie better air flow. + with it being total innert it will help look after the inner workings of your PCP rifles....

Well once i get it ill post again but its worth checking out your local Boc depot....

Cheshire, be warned, you are probably about to get linched for suggestiong a fill with something other than dry air!

It may well be dangerous, invalidate any warranty & / or take the power output above legal levels.

All in all, it's viewed as a really bad idea.

ive been diving for 15 years and i work with very high pressures on a daily basis.

your car tyre has 30 psi average divers bottle 3000 psi ish.

mmm potential bomb considering their size.

so why test em??? obvious safety!! ive seen a cylinder with 5000psi go bang( work cylinder not diving)

trust me it would atomise you if you were beside it.

best get your cylinders tested or at least internaly checked for corrosion both for your safety and the reliability of your gun.

as for putting other than deisgned for gas into your rifle? ie designed for compressed air and not any other.....

different gases different molecular make up?? may not be so good for your rifleparts\workings

take care of your air rifle cylinders\bottles these thing are like little hand grenades treat pressure with respect...can fully imagine little bits o shrapnel flying even from these small bottles

I too have been diving for a similar period and amongst other things I am qualified both as a gas mixer and blender (Nitrox) and compressor operator. I therefore echo the sound advice about using anything other than air in your pcp. The results could be lethal!

As to the original thread about testing the buddy bottle then as it would on inspection not be suitable for underwater use then I believe it would require a test every 5 years from the date of manufacture (Which should be stamped on the neck of the bottle).

I was intrigued with the Q? on testing your PCP so I spoke to the nice folk at Air Arms (I've an S410). They say they recommend a service every 2yrs at which point the cylinder would be examined. This skillfully avoided the direct Q? on testing in it's own right!

couldn't agree more about using nothing but air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! scary!!!!!!!!

but helium would make it lighter.........joke!!!!...lol

i presume there is a pressure issue with buddy bottles ( 300 bar)

air chamber on my logun is 200bar, huge difference, but, i still wouldn't want 200bar going bang anywhere near me!!!!!!!!

i presume when my gun is serviced ( to comply with its lifetime warranty) the chamber will be inspected, and deemed safe or replaced?????

ah well ................we'll see when its serviced.................not holding out much hope for being replaced!!

lastly.........surely all pumps should be supplied with a filter to remove moisture generated by compressing air???? as long term this can only cause damage???

thanks fellas
