Ferreting

Drove past this field the other evening and I could'nt believe the amount of rabbits so I thought I better try to thin them out a wee bit.

Once again the pitures are pretty crap as once the bolting starts I forget all about the camera. :icon_redface:

Those must be fairly shallow warrens for the rabbits to bolt well at this time of year. We've just been out and tried to do a big warren under a hedge: huge numbers of holes and the rabbits just don't bolt, or if they do then they're little ones that drag the nets off, through the nettles and the adult rabbits just run round and round underground! Bloody infuriating.

At least you've had a good haul there: we'll just have to try and long net this place.

Thanks for the replies all.

Skycat,

I was getting readings about 2-4 feet for the most part, I did'nt dig at though I hardly ever use purse nets these days, I have 2 25yds longnet and a 12 foot stop/gatenet, I'm going invest is more stopnets as they are quick to set and move and ideal on hedge where rabbits tend to just run up and down the hedge.

One of the 3 jills took a real kicking as under the wall the holes opened to large cavernous areas and the big rabbits could really put the boot in, she still kicked ass. :notworthy:

Most of the catches were snatched at the mouth of the holes by Ameerah (the black and tan bitch), she 4 this year and has really come into her own this season taken rabbits at the mouth of the holes or just as the try to get down another hole missing very few. Tariq on the other hand being a rescue and that has been brought up in open field course relies more on his eyes rather than his ear and nose but it's slowly coming.

Rew,

Luckily they are both very tough skinned because they where back forth through and over those fences the whole time really rattling them at times.

As for numbers it means absolutely nothing, it takes a better dog to find and catch a few were rabbit are few and far between.
